My Brother Has Been Following Me Since His Death
CHAPTER 6:
24.
That day, Xia Shang grabbed the rat demon and disappeared before our eyes.
Xiao Qingzhi took us away from that manor, and with a wave of his hand, burned the manor to ashes.
Later, I learned that when Xia Shang and I were born, my father, in a desperate attempt to save his business, sought help from Master Li.
Master Li said he needed to sacrifice a child to bring his company back from the brink.
He knew my mother was carrying twins, and he planned to sacrifice me.
But Xia Shang’s soul was strong, born with memories. To protect me, he was born before me, and Master Li took his life.
Even his body was made into a child statue, confined to that manor, unable to be reborn.
Xia Shang really wasn’t wrong; he had been protecting me all along…
The reason Xia Shang occupied my body was to reclaim his physical form when Master Li's lifespan was nearly over and his powers at their weakest after sixteen years.
I asked Xiao Qingzhi about Xia Shang's origins and his own background, but he told me nothing, only saying that the time wasn't right.
I was to wait patiently.
Xia Yang died in that manor, and Xu Man went mad, ending up in a mental hospital, sent there by my father.
My mother divorced my father, taking a large sum of his money with her, and left the country with my sister.
Before she left, she asked me, “Yuan Yuan, do you want to come with Mom?”
I shook my head.
My mother probably didn’t truly want to take me with her; she simply said, “Take care of yourself, and don’t tell your father where we went.”
Then she took my sister and boarded a plane.
My father's business continued to decline, eventually going bankrupt.
The company collapsed, and our house and car were sold off. Debt collectors came to our home daily, throwing paint and cursing him, wishing him ill.
In the end, my father couldn’t bear the pressure and jumped from the roof of the twenty-eighth floor.
25.
Xiao Qingzhi adopted me; I didn’t know what methods he used, but he successfully became my guardian.
The autopsy report on the fat uncle revealed that he had died of a sudden myocardial infarction, and the head injuries he sustained were not fatal.
In the circumstances at the time, injuring him was considered self-defense, and I bore no legal responsibility.
They said he had once owned a frozen meat processing factory, which eventually went bankrupt. In his factory, many bodies of victimized girls were found, along with large freezers and a chainsaw.
Li Meixin's parents even came to the school to thank me, saying that if it hadn’t been for me, they would never have found their daughter.
After school, I saw Li Meixin waving goodbye to me at the corner of the street, her face adorned with a sweet smile, identical to the one in the missing person notice on the school bulletin board.
As I watched her figure disappear in the sunset, I suddenly felt a pang of longing for Xia Shang.
“Brother, where did you run off to?”
Of course, I didn’t want him to come back to find me.
I was afraid he would end up fighting with Xiao Qingzhi.
Just as I was thinking this, suddenly, a little girl ran towards me and handed me a lollipop.
She said in a babyish voice, “Sister, here!”
I was stunned. “Why are you giving it to me?”
The little girl pointed towards the direction behind her. “A brother told me to give it to you.”
My heart tightened, and I immediately asked, “Brother? What does he look like?”
She frowned. “He looks like… the sister with short hair!”
After saying that, the little girl turned and ran away.
Leaving me alone, standing at the crossroads in the setting sun, for a long time.
——The End——
Translator Note:
I finally finished this short novel. The ending has several plot holes that the author didn't explain. I enjoyed the novel, but it left me wanting to know more about Xia Shang, Xiao Qingzi, and Xia Yuan. It's a short novel, so I guess it's best not to overthink it. (Secretly disappointed with the ending, haha!)

ReplyDeleteOh so this is apparently part of a series:
ReplyDelete本系列为天瞳系列的姐妹篇,如之前于《天瞳3:向阳之诗》评论区所述,这系列写得比较淩乱没意思,但为了方便理解夏殇这个角色由来,因此上传此系列第一篇。
目前这系列有三篇,后两篇为《食罪》、《牵丝美人》,大致内容已于《天瞳3:向阳之诗》评论区概述过
This series is the sister of the Tian Tong series. As mentioned in the comments of Tian Tong 3: Xiang Yang Zhi Shi, this series is rather messy and boring, but in order to make it easier to understand the origin of the character Xia Shang, I uploaded the first chapter of this series.
Currently, this series has three chapters, the last two of which are "Eating Sin" and "Pulling Silk Beauty". The general content has been outlined in the comments of Tian Tong 3: Xiang Yang Zhi Shi.
Thanks for letting me know. That's so sweet of you. Yeah, I'm currently still translating the first one, Tian Tong: Heavenly Eyes. It's December, so I'm translating it slowly because I'm quite busy right now.
