Heavenly Eye 2: School Ghost Stories
CHAPTER 1
01.
My name is Shen Tong, and I'm a freshman in the first year of junior high at Sheng Hua Middle School.
My grandmother is a fortune teller in the countryside. She's commonly known as ‘Flowers Goddess.’
That year, I exceeded expectations in the middle school entrance exam and was admitted to Sheng Hua Middle School with the top score in my grade. My success was a big deal in the whole school.
A month later, in the monthly exam, I once again became famous throughout the school, but this time for achieving the lowest score in the entire grade.
Because, I saw those things again.
02.
Our homeroom teacher is Ms. Guan, the English teacher.
Mr. Li, the PE teacher, is her husband.
Whenever the PE teacher is sick, the English teacher comes to substitute for him.
In the afternoon, Ms. Guan, elegant and poised, was reading the textbook aloud. Her pure British accent echoed throughout the classroom.
It made people...drowsy.
I, however, was glued to the ceiling fan above the teacher's head, completely unable to sleep.
“Don't fall down, don't fall down, don't fall down…”
The senior brother's body was hanging from the ceiling fan, his feet dangling back and forth.
Each swing brushed against the English teacher's face.
The sneakers hanging from his toes had loose laces, swaying precariously.
I, with my obsessive-compulsive disorder, couldn't bear it.
I couldn't focus on the lesson at all, my mind completely consumed by praying that the senior brother's shoes wouldn't fall.
But in the end, the senior brother's shoe did fall.
It hit the English teacher's nose, then rolled down.
In the middle of her lesson, she suddenly shuddered.
She raised her hand and touched her nose. It was already bleeding.
The English teacher frowned, pulled out a tissue to wipe her nose, and mumbled to herself:
“What's going on? Every time I have afternoon English tutoring, my nose bleeds…”
I watched the English teacher's puzzled expression, hesitant whether or not to speak up.
“Teacher, I...I…”
The senior brother hanging from the ceiling fan suddenly turned his head and glared at me.
His eyes seemed like they could devour me whole.
I hesitated for a long time, but ultimately couldn't bring myself to say anything.
“I want to go to the bathroom.”
The English teacher gave me a disdainful look. “Go quickly! Lazy people have a lot of bodily needs! Forget it, you guys can study on your own for this class!”
Then she walked out of the classroom, and cursed at me:
“Shen Tong, can you focus a little? You were the top scorer in your school when you got in here. How much effort did I go through to get you into this class? Look at you now…”
I hid in a stall in the bathroom and covered my ears.
“Stop cursing, stop cursing…”
The next second, I heard a voice coming from beneath my feet:
“Quiet down! Quiet down!”
03.
It turned out I had mistakenly entered the wrong stall in my rush.
Sheng Hua Middle School had an unspoken rule: don't go to the second-to-last stall in the girls' bathroom on the first floor of Building One.
Otherwise...
The toilet paper in your pocket would mysteriously disappear!
Especially at night, when you were the only one out there.
Who doesn't have shit since ancient times? But there is no paper in the squat toilet.
I'm a bit helpless about it.
With my unique condition, I've always been cautious in life.
After all, ignorance is bliss. I know too much, so it's normal to be timid.
(T/N: Start of flashbacks)
But once, there was a problem with the school cafeteria. Everyone who ate there had stomach trouble and kept running to the bathroom.
I couldn't wait any longer, so I gritted my teeth and went into the second-to-last stall.
Unexpectedly, as I was in the middle of things, I saw a pale hand reaching up from below, trying to grab the toilet paper in my pocket!
I instinctively pressed down on the hand, and then a pale face popped up.
“Oh my, you can see me?”
It's hard not to see you when your whole head is sticking out!
I've seen things, though. Despite seeing her, I didn't scream.
“Um, senior sister... Could you please let go of the toilet paper? I'll leave right after I finish. I won't come back.
Also, senior sister, can you step aside for a moment? I can't poop if you look at me..”
The senior smiled slyly, and her body floated away.
Not only did she watch me, but she also rested her chin on her hand and stared me in the face.
“We're both girls, what are you shy about? You call me senior sister, I can't be rude. Go ahead, I won't steal your paper.”
The senior sister was so generous, I was touched.
In addition, I had a stomachache, so I could only let it all out in front of her.
As I escaped, I saw the senior sister sitting on the toilet, her hand resting on her cheek as she waved to me.
As I returned to the classroom, my deskmate, Xu Jia, asked me, “Shen Tong, who were you muttering to in the bathroom just now?”
Did someone notice?
My heart pounded with anxiety.
I used to be ostracized because of my spiritual sensitivity, so I had been trying my best to hide it.
Was my true ability about to be revealed?
“N-no, I was just complaining. What's wrong?”
Hearing my reply, Xu Jia breathed a sigh of relief and said, “That's good. I thought you ran into something unclean!”
My scalp tingled, realizing Xu Jia might know something. I couldn't help but press her for more information.
“What kind of unclean thing?”
Xu Jia lowered her voice and told me, “My sister told me…”
04.
Xu Jia's sister also graduated from Sheng Hua Middle School, a few grades above us.
Apparently, the rule about the bathroom came from a girl in her sister's class.
That girl was alone in the bathroom, and when she bent down to pick up a dropped tissue, she accidentally snapped her neck...
I heard correctly, it just snapped...
I didn't understand what happened to that senior sister, but I was deeply shocked.
Seeing my daze, Xu Jia grabbed my shoulder.
“Ever since then, no one dared to use that stall anymore!
Because there's a rumor that if you use that stall, your toilet paper will mysteriously disappear!
Some say that senior sister helps you pick it up…”
You might have misunderstood the senior sister. She didn't help you pick it up, she stole it!
But thinking about it, maybe she did that because she was afraid that someone else would suffer the same fate as her and break their neck while picking up a tissue.
I suddenly found the senior sister a little cute.
…… (T/N: End of flashbacks)
At this point, the senior sister, seeing my shaken state, asked me, “What's wrong? Did you do poorly on a test and get yelled at by Ms. Guan?”
I hesitated.
Those who die unjustly often become earthbound spirits because their resentment is too strong, or their wishes remain unfulfilled.
The senior sister in the bathroom and the senior brother hanging from the ceiling fan in the classroom are both earthbound spirits.
Generally, they exist within their own space.
Would the senior sister in the bathroom know if I told her?
“It's the one... hanging from the fan in Class 3…”
Before I could finish my sentence, the senior sister spoke first:
“Li Mingkai!
Everyone in our school knows about him. He's been hanging there for almost twenty years!”
-_-||
I underestimated the senior sister. I didn't expect her to be so well-informed, even as an earthbound spirit.
I couldn't help but ask, “Then do you know…”
The senior sister said excitedly, “Of course not! I've only been dead for a few years.
He was hanging there before I was even born!
But I advise you not to mess with him if you can help it. It's only three years, just hang in there!
Other ghosts aren't as nice to you as I am.”
Okay, but can you please stop trying to steal my toilet paper?
05.
The senior sister understands what's good for me.
After I caught her, she stopped trying to steal my toilet paper.
But the senior sister's attitude made me curious about this Li Mingkai.
I couldn't figure out why he would kick Ms. Guan's nose and make it bleed.
But I didn't dare turn around and ask him.
He's so scary.
When school let out, my younger brother, Shen Chen, came to pick me up.
Seeing me mumbling to myself, he asked, “Sis, what's wrong? Did you do poorly on a test and get yelled at by the teacher again?”
My younger brother, who is five years younger than me, is only eight years old, but he worries about this family so much.
When he was little, I jokingly said that he had to take care of both Mom and Dad at such a young age.
I didn't realize he not only had to take care of Mom and Dad, but he also had to take care of me now.
Of course, since Mom and Dad went into business and are busy, he mainly takes care of me.
Hearing Shen Chen's words, I shook my head.
They don't understand. I deliberately failed all my exams.
Because I'm short, if I did well in school, the teacher wouldn't let me sit in the back row.
Senior bother's hanging spot is in the front row.
I'm afraid his shoes will fall off and hit me.
“Sigh…”
If Grandma were here, she could help me figure this out.
Recently, Grandma went back to her hometown to visit her ancestors and said she wanted to stay there for a while. She hasn't come back yet.
I looked at Shen Chen beside me and sighed again.
“Sigh…”
I decided not to tell my brother about this.
He's only eight years old, and he's already shouldered more than he should at his age.
Shen Chen was unnerved by my stare and looked at me strangely.
“Sis, what's wrong with you today? You keep sighing.”
Me: “I can't do my homework. Can you help me?”
Shen Chen: “I'm an elementary school student. How could I possibly do junior high homework?”
Me: “Ah, I think I saw someone reading Dad's calculus book by themselves.”
“Shen Tongtong, don't be ridiculous…”
Just as I was playing with my brother, a figure quickly flashed past me.
I frowned and stopped at the crosswalk.
Shen Chen realized something was wrong and stopped, asking me, “Sis, what's wrong?”
I just saw... Shao Lanxuan?
06.
I asked Shen Chen, “Did you see that just now?”
Shen Chen, with a look of alert, gripped my sleeve.
Shen Chen has never liked Shao Lanxuan.
He says that this guy is unlucky and being around him brings misfortune.
Seeing his reaction, I knew I hadn't been mistaken.
But isn't Shao Lanxuan a rich kid? He always has people following him wherever he goes. Why is he walking alone on the street now?
With his unlucky personality, I hope nothing bad happens to him...
This thought barely crossed my mind when a flower pot fell from the sky, heading straight for Shao Lanxuan.
I saw this and thought, “Oh no!”
I rushed forward and pushed him aside.
“Watch out!”
Shao Lanxuan stumbled forward from my push and hit his forehead on the ground.
He was bleeding…
Looking at Shao Lanxuan, his forehead covered in blood, I was so embarrassed that I could have dug out Qin Shi Huang's tomb with my toes.
“Heh... a bloody disaster, unavoidable.”
Shao Lanxuan raised his head, dazed, and his eyes lit up for a moment when he saw me.
“Shen Tong.”
I had originally planned to slip away after accidentally hurting him while trying to save him.
But now that he recognized me, I had to greet him.
“Hi~ Young Master, what are you doing here?”
Just a casual greeting, pretending nothing happened, should be fine, right?
But then, Shao Lanxuan spoke, almost making me bite my own tongue.
“I came to find you.”
Me: “????”
Shen Chen and I took Shao Lanxuan to the hospital for a bandage, and then found a place to sit down.
Actually, I have a bit of a connection with Shao Lanxuan, but not much.
Li Zhuangzhuang was closer to him, but Li Zhuangzhuang died, so we don't keep in touch as much.
But he's a young master from a wealthy family, with a single command, he could find out all my information in a minute, so it's not strange that he found me outside school.
I asked him, “Young Master, what do you want?”
Shao Lanxuan said, “I'm going abroad.”
Me: “Oh…”
Shao Lanxuan didn't wait for me to finish before continuing.
“I came to apologize.
Back then, if I hadn't asked you to read my fate, you wouldn't have been sealed off from seeing the future because you revealed a secret."
If you had been able to see Li Zhuangzhuang's fatal destiny, he wouldn't have died!”
