Heavenly Eye 2: School Ghost Stories

CHAPTER 4

16.

I quickly went up and pulled Shao Lanxuan away from the edge of the building.

“Look at you, you really don't know how to talk! She's your grandpa's legal wife, which makes her your grandma!”

Shao Lanxuan wanted to argue: “I've never seen my grandma…”

I slapped him on the back of the head: “Call her grandma!”

Shao Lanxuan was stunned by my slap, he mumbled “Grandma” in a meek tone.

I smiled at the woman. “Grandma, you go ahead, we have something to do, we'll be off now!”

Then, I grabbed Shao Lanxuan and ran out.

Seeing us trying to leave, the woman's face darkened, and her hair scattered and danced in the wind.

“Trying to run? Not so easy! My name is Qiu Yueying, I grew up with your grandfather, we were childhood sweethearts, and I married him at fourteen.

When your grandfather went to the provincial capital to do business, he betrayed me. He abandoned his wife to marry a rich girl.

You are his grandson, you will pay for his sins!”

Seeing how fierce this grandma was, I immediately pulled out my feather duster and stood in front of her.

“Grandma, you can't blame him for that!

Those things happened before he was born, how can you hold it against him?"

Besides, you can't just say whatever you want and expect people to believe it. What if there's some misunderstanding?"

And anyway, you should seek revenge on the person who wronged you, you should go after his grandpa!”

A flash of malice appeared in Grandma Qiu Yueying's eyes when she heard my words.

“Do you think I don't want to kill that old bastard?”

Then she looked at Shao Lanxuan with a sly smile.

“Kid, do you think you can survive if I don't kill you? You saw the medical records in his study safe, didn't you?

He should have died over a decade ago! It was only by using some black magic to prolong his life that he escaped death!

Your dad, he was the sacrifice offered to that person!

He originally wanted to sacrifice you, his newborn grandson, but unfortunately, your parents were unlucky.

Hahaha…”

Shao Lanxuan, who had already been pulled away by me, couldn't help but rush back when he heard this.

“Grandma Yueying, is what you said true? My grandpa, he really killed my parents, he really wanted to kill me?”

Perhaps it was the ‘Grandma’ that softened Qiu Yueying's heart.

Grandma Qiu Yueying snorted coldly and continued: “Back then, he killed me and had a Taoist priest use secret techniques to seal my soul, preventing me from being reincarnated.

Fortunately, a bolt of lightning struck the seal and broke it, allowing me to escape.

I originally wanted to seek revenge, but he was carrying a talisman given to him by that stinky Taoist priest, and I couldn't do anything.

But it's okay, I followed him every day, his bad luck clung to him, and after a long time, he got lung cancer!

But what I didn't expect was that he was so ruthless, he actually came up with a way to steal life force to extend his own life…”

17.

We understood what she meant without her saying it.

Shao Lanxuan's parents died in the car accident, and Shao Lanxuan survived.

This time, Shao Lanxuan's grandfather insisted on sending him to study abroad because his lung cancer had relapsed, and he wanted to repeat the same trick.

And the reason why Shao Lanxuan was so unlucky was because Grandma Qiu Yueying was secretly harming him.

He was able to live safely until now because his parents became his guardian spirits after they died, silently protecting him.

“Shao Lanxuan…”

I looked at Shao Lanxuan's disheartened appearance and wanted to comfort him.

But an old voice came from the entrance to the rooftop.

There were still no footsteps, only the faint, intermittent coughing.

The moonlight pierced through the clouds, illuminating the rooftop.

Shao's grandfather, dressed in a shroud and carrying a cane, appeared before us.

“Lanxuan, didn't Grandpa tell you to stay home and rest? You're going to get on the plane in a few days, why aren't you listening?”

Shao's grandfather's voice was deep, hoarse, and slightly cruel, making people's skin crawl.

Shao Lanxuan looked at his grandfather excitedly.

“Grandpa! Is what Grandma Yueying said true? Did you really kill her? Did you really kill my parents?”

Shao's grandfather's face suddenly changed. “I did this! All for the sake of the Shao family! For the sake of the ancestral legacy!

Your father is too kind, and you are too soft-hearted. How could I trust you with the Shao family?

This family, it all depends on me! Your lives were given to you by me, so what if I take them back?”

Shao Lanxuan couldn't believe that these words came from his grandfather's mouth.

“You are my grandfather! How can you do this?”

But Shao's grandfather grabbed Shao Lanxuan and brought him to the edge of the rooftop.

“Enough with the nonsense, you just don't want to get on the plane, right? It's the same here!”

Shao Lanxuan grabbed his grandfather's arm and managed to stay from falling, but I was terrified.

“Grandpa Shao! Let go! My grandma is very powerful, if you dare to hurt him, my grandma will not spare you!”

Shao's grandfather scoffed. “Lanxuan was very obedient before, it was all because of you, you little dead girl, who incited him! He wouldn't get on the plane obediently!”

Grandma Qiu Yueying laughed from the side.

“Good grandson, look at your grandfather, he had this same expression when he killed me!

Shao Wenkang! You're still the same selfish, inhuman person!

Oh, now that you're neither dead nor alive, neither human nor ghost, what humanity do you have left? Hahaha…”

18.

Looking at the scene in front of me, I became anxious.

“Grandma Yueying, don't just watch!

Aren't you going to seek revenge on Grandpa Shao? If Shao Lanxuan dies, he can borrow life again, he won't be able to die!

Why don't you help me save Shao Lanxuan, and then you two can fight it out?”

Grandma Yueying was amused by my words.

“Little girl, you're not old, but you're quite bold, daring to command your grandma?”

What else could I do?

I'm just a thirteen-year-old kid!

“Grandma! Please help me! I promise you, as long as you help me save Shao Lanxuan, I'll make sure my grandma finds your burial place, finds someone to perform a memorial service for you, and finds you a good feng shui burial ground...

I'll set up a memorial tablet for you, I'll burn incense for you every day, I'll be filial to you, okay?

Grandma, grandma, grandma…”

Grandma Yueying had originally planned to sit back and watch the show.

But she lost herself in my repeated calls of ‘Grandma.’

She impatiently said, “He has a protective talisman given to him by that stinky Taoist priest, I can't touch him!”

I looked at Grandpa Shao, my gaze fell upon the ebony cane.

I immediately reminded Shao Lanxuan.

“The cane!”

Shao Lanxuan, who had been angered by his grandfather's words, no longer wanted to die and grabbed his grandfather's cane.

Shao's grandfather's face changed when he saw Shao Lanxuan trying to take his cane.

His already gloomy expression became even more ferocious and terrifying.

They wrestled over the cane, back and forth.

But Shao Lanxuan, a thirteen-year-old boy, was no match for his grandfather. He was carelessly pushed off the building by his grandfather.

In a moment, Shao's grandfather lost his grip on the cane, and it fell down with Shao Lanxuan.

At the same time, he lost his protective talisman and was grabbed by the neck by Grandma Yueying.

“Shao Wenkang, I've waited a long time for this day.”

And I, lying on the edge of the rooftop, cried my eyes out, watching helplessly as Shao Lanxuan fell from the top floor. I thought he was going to be smashed to pieces... wait?

In a daze, I saw the two shadows I had seen on Shao Lanxuan again.

His father and mother's faces appeared behind him, firmly holding him up, bringing him safely to the ground.

Seeing Shao Lanxuan unconscious, I immediately rushed down with Shen Chen.

19

After that day, Shao Lanxuan remained unconscious for a whole month before waking up.

The police found Shao's grandfather's body on the rooftop of the building.

The body was gruesome, covered in wounds, and with two deep marks on the neck.

Most frighteningly, an autopsy revealed that Shao's grandfather's lungs were already fibrotic, as if he had been dead for a long time.

But neighbors and colleagues testified that they had seen him the night before.

Therefore, this case became an unsolved mystery, turning into an urban legend whispered among people.

Shao Lanxuan inherited all of his grandfather's property, transferred to our school, and became my classmate.

When Shen Chen heard about this, he was furious.

“You promised me you wouldn't hang out with him behind my back!”

Shao Lanxuan comforted him, “Your sister and I are classmates now, I'm hanging out with her openly.”

From then on, Shen Chen, Shao Lanxuan, and I went to and from school together every day.

Our daily routine changed from Shen Chen doing my homework alone to Shen Chen and Shao Lanxuan doing my homework together.

The only thing that worried me was that I hadn't seen Grandma Yueying since that day.

I thought she had died with Grandpa Shao, but one day, I woke up to see Grandma Yueying standing by my bed, looking at me with a proud and arrogant expression and asking:

“Little girl! Didn't you say you would set up a memorial tablet for me and offer incense to me every morning and evening? Where is my memorial tablet?”

EXTRA CHAPTER

I was always curious about the connection between Li Mingkai and Teacher Guan, but I couldn't find any clues.

One time, I left school early on a holiday, but I forgot my homework and had to go back to get it.

But I found the lights were still on in our classroom. Vaguely, I saw Teacher Guan standing under the fan, talking and wiping away tears.

Later, I found out that Li Mingkai was actually the son of Teacher Guan and Teacher Li.

He was also a student at our school over 20 years ago.

Because both of his parents were teachers, Teacher Guan was especially strict with him, always scolding him for playing basketball and not focusing on his studies.

One time, after an argument with Teacher Guan, Li Mingkai, in a moment of despair, hanged himself in the classroom.

For all these years, Teacher Guan has been teaching in this classroom, to remember her son.

——The End of Part Two——

T/N: This series is actually quite simple and, frankly, a little boring. My tendency toward perfectionism compels me to translate it all, however! Fortunately, each book has only short chapters. Don't worry, after this series, I have two short, very interesting novels lined up! 🤣😅

Comments

  1. Yeah, I find it has similar vibe to Natsume’s book of friends which is overall charming but can be boring at times. I enjoy it a lot though. This is really up my alley. Thank you so much for translating this series.

    1. Thanks for reading this and your kind comment. Haha, to be honest, I don't know if anyone would like this. Knowing that there's someone who likes this novel makes me happy. Every novel has its own charm, but people's opinions and tastes differ, so I didn't have high hopes while translating this novel. Now, knowing that you like it makes me happy as a translator. Thanks for reading.

  2. Wait, after making me cry and laugh, you're calling this boring? 😭🥹

    1. Oh haha, sorry. Yeah, to be honest, if this series wasn’t linked together, I wouldn’t have translated it. I didn’t even know it was a series when I translated that short novel “My Brother Following Me After His Death.” That one was actually good, but if I’m being honest, this one isn’t really my taste. I translated it because it’s part of the series, not because I personally wanted to. Thankfully it was short, or I’d be in real trouble 🤭
