CHAPTER 7

28

Every time I went, I brought a gift.

Her scheming father, her domineering brother who once backed her, and finally, her beloved mother who gave her the abortion medicine that killed my son.

One by one, I subjected each of them to all seventy-two tortures—just like her brother once did to me—only allowing death once they reached the end.

At first, Zhu Huan was full of hatred, crying and screaming, wishing she could tear me apart.

Then came fear, submission, and desperate pleas for mercy.

I did not accept them—and so I continued to humiliate and torment her.

In the end, she went mad. She tried to snatch a knife and kill herself, but the guards stopped her.

“Take good care of her every day. If anyone lets her die, I will wipe out their entire clan.”

Her family was buried in the Cold Palace, keeping her company day after day.

Zhu Huan couldn't die—but she couldn’t live either, just like me, hanging from the peach tree.

Day after day, she endured.

29

My great vengeance was fulfilled, and my son became the new emperor.

He held me in great respect, and under my subtle guidance, he overturned the injustice done to the Yun family.

With no more worries, I, the youngest Empress Dowager, had nothing but endless fortune.

Banquet after banquet was held in the palace. The world said I couldn’t bear loneliness and loved lavish feasts.

I paid no mind and continued on my own path.

Until, at one palace banquet, I saw the pregnant wife of the Heir of Marquis Rong'en—and couldn't help but smile with joy.

The Rong'en Marquisate had been noble for generations, known for their upright family values. Unless there was great difficulty in bearing children, they never took concubines.

The heir and his wife were childhood sweethearts deeply in love. Though the child was only five months along, they had already prepared everything for the child’s future.

The affection and care they showed were evident.

A family like this—truly rare and wonderful.

“Little Madam of the Rong'en Marquisate, come here. You look so blessed—let me gift you something.”

The young woman glanced at the heir, and with his reassuring look, she slowly stepped toward me.

I pulled out the warm white jade I had hidden for so long and placed it in her hand.

“For keeping the baby safe. Wear it every day.”

She accepted it with a smile and thanked me for the grace.

Watching her walk farther away, I thought of the girl under the peach blossom tree who once shared dried meat with me.

“I have found a good family for you in your next life. You must—absolutely—find happiness.”

—The End—

________________

T/N: Ugh, honestly?? I was reading this novel at like 3 a.m. last week!

🀣 Yeah, I can be that crazy, but hey—that’s not the point.

While reading it (mostly MTL cough), I thought: “Why not let my readers suffer—I mean, feel the heartache with me?

So here we are... sharing the pain together.

Hahahaha~ I’m such a good translator, right??

But real talk—this novel totally tortured my soul.

Like seriously... the author used classical Chinese.

CLASSICAL. CHINESE.

Can you believe that?? Because I still can’t.

It took me days to translate and even more days to proofread.

(And by proofreading, I mean staring at the screen thinking; “Everything feels wrong but I don’t know why.”)

Oh, and guess what?

No timeline.

No “two years later,”

No “one month passed,”

Not even the Fourth Prince’s age is clear!!

So if you find plot holes, please don’t throw spears or set me on fire πŸ”₯

—I’m just like you: confused but deeply invested.

Anyway~

I really hope you enjoy this novel!

I did promise two short novels after MDCM ended, but thanks to my hiatus, it took months to fulfill that promise.

Sowwy~!!

Love you all~

    1. You're very welcome! I was cheering like a madwoman—seeing them finally get what they deserved was so satisfying. Especially that scumbag Emperor. Ugh, I have a thousand nasty words I could curse him with… but I won’t. He doesn’t deserve the attention.

  2. OMG, thank you so much for translating this. It left such a bittersweet taste, like, I should feel happy, but instead I feel empty. Never ever trust a man 100%. In the end, the only person you can truly count on is yourself. This was an emotional rollercoaster that yanked my feelings around every damn second. But that revenge? Absolute chef’s kiss. Perfection. Please accept my bow πŸ™‡πŸ»‍♀️πŸ™‡πŸ»‍♀️

    1. Hehe, I'm glad you enjoyed the translation, even with the bittersweet feeling. I categorized it as a "Complex Ending" because while there are happy moments, the overall impact is more bittersweet. It's a fitting label since I wasn't sure what else to call it.

You're right, but it's not just about men; it applies to all people. No one is perfect, so ultimately, self-love and self-reliance are crucial. It's okay to be selfish in a way that protects you from harm—a healthy selfishness, not the kind that involves hurting others (like stealing someone's boyfriend). That's morally wrong, of course.

Yes, the scenes with her brother, her suffering, and her unwavering hope for her husband's return were very moving. I cried a little too. Her deep love and his failure to appreciate it are heartbreaking. Thirteen years of abandonment, yet she still held onto hope for his change.

Aww, thank you for your sweet bow! Thanks for reading and for your feedback. πŸ’•

  4. This is the first time I've ever read a story where MC takes REVENGE. She did give SC so many chances up until the end but he just disappointed her every time. I'm also so glad Meng Jin got reincarnated into a good family. 100% YT is gonna spoil her when she's born. Thank you for allowing us to suffer with you in this story <3

    1. Right?? Watching MC actually go through with her revenge felt so satisfying—no forgiveness arc, just pure earned payback. And Meng Jin finally getting the peace she deserves? My heart. Thank you for suffering alongside me~ we made it through together <3 πŸ˜‚

  5. I could read this as a long novel. This is so much fun and also heartbreaking. I wish we can see an extra chapter of what Meng Jin would be in another lifetime. I also wish the MC could find her own happy ending with another sweet guy.

Thank you so much for translating this I always enjoy your pick of the novels whether short or long.
