Spoiled Eldest Miss x Two-faced Madman

CHAPTER 110: “Why Didn’t Pei Ji Come?”

An Jiu’s second wedding came even faster and more rushed than her first.

Thankfully, the jianghu wasn’t like the royal court. People didn’t care much for ceremonies or strict traditions, so everything was smoothly prepared the day before the wedding.

Over the past few days, ‘Fei Yi’ still didn’t come to see her often, but he had someone tailor a wedding dress for her. Even though it was rushed, the craftsmanship was no worse than the one she wore when she became a wángfēi.

The wedding dress was fiery red. Once again, the young girl tied up her dark hair, wore an ornate golden crown, and had bright red makeup brushed across her face.

While the maidservants helped dress her up, the man stood nearby, quietly watching.

Normally, before a wedding, the groom wasn’t supposed to see the bride until the wedding night, when he lifted her veil. But this was the Qiansha Pavilion. No one dared question him.

As for the bride, her eyes sparkled as she kept stealing glances at him. Her entire face was filled with joy and affection, not a single hint of complaint.

After everything was ready, the man, now dressed in a red robe, stepped in front of An Jiu. His dark eyes locked onto her for a moment, then his Adam’s apple bobbed as he said, “You look beautiful.”

His voice was a little hoarse, his gaze as calm as the sea.

Hearing his compliment, An Jiu beamed, her eyes curving sweetly as she smiled.

Her cheeks flushed as she tilted her head up to look at him, shy yet bold as she said, “Fei Yi, you’re really handsome today too. I really like it…”

As soon as she said that, her little head ducked down like an ostrich burying itself in the sand.

The man lifted the corners of his lips slightly, though the smile didn’t quite reach his eyes.

Those pitch-black eyes never strayed from her, like he wanted to etch her every movement and expression into the depths of his soul.

If nothing went wrong, tonight would be their wedding night.

By then, he would plant the Twin-soul Gu into her and spend the night with her as husband and wife.

She wouldn’t know a thing. She would simply be wrapped up in sweetness and love, embracing both the pleasure and the pain brought by the man she adored… and die blissfully, without ever knowing the truth.

This was the ending Pei Ji had written for her long ago.

He liked her, but not enough to give up his own life.

Even if the thought of her dying made his chest ache with emptiness, he still wanted to live.

“Have all my friends arrived?” the girl suddenly looked up and asked again.

She seemed to care about this a lot. Every time she saw him, she would ask about her friends.

Pei Ji replied calmly, “They’re all here. I’ve already had them invited. They should be seated at the banquet by now.”

The girl smiled brightly, her lips curving sweetly. “That’s good. Once they see us happily together, they won’t misunderstand you anymore.

The man gave a faint smile, neither confirming nor denying. He held out one long, slender hand and said gently, “Come. I’ll take you out to greet the guests.”

The girl frowned slightly, unsure. “Just walk out like this? Aren’t I supposed to stay in the bridal room and wait?”

From what she remembered, that’s how it was last time. A bride wasn’t supposed to show herself at the banquet and greet guests, right?

Pei Ji answered mildly, “I’m a man of the jianghu. I don’t care about rules. Didn’t you say you wanted to see your friends? Go see them, then come back.”

The girl tilted her head, thinking for a moment before nodding with a look of realization. “That’s true. Once you’re married, you follow your husband. I guess I’m part of the jianghu now too.”

She smiled sweetly and trustingly placed her soft hand in his palm, her entire expression filled with affection and joy.

The man looked down at her hand in silence, then gently tightened his grip and led her out step by step.

The wedding banquet was set up beneath the tallest tower in the center of the pavilion, with tables arranged under the open sky.

Every table was already filled. At the front table sat Lin Qingyan, He Ziqing, and other friends An Jiu recognized. The rest of the tables were occupied by guards brought in by Ming Yi.

In other words, the only real guests at this wedding were at that one table.

The tower was decorated with bright red lanterns and silk, brimming with festivity. Outside, musicians played cheerful tunes while veiled maids scattered flower petals. The atmosphere was lively and grand.

But at the main table, every single person wore a strained face and heavy expression.

“This guy is way too arrogant! He’s actually marrying An Jiu? No parents’ blessing, no matchmaker. What does he take An Jiu for?” After a heavy silence, Ming Yi was the first to speak.

Jin Yanwan replied simply, “He’s making a statement. Showing off.”

He Ziqing said boldly, “Why don’t we just wait till he comes out? I’ll challenge him to a fight and make him let Miss An go.”

Lin Qingyan rolled her eyes without mercy, grabbed a fruit off the table, and stuffed it into her boyfriend’s mouth to shut him up.

“All you ever think about is fighting. That guy trapped us in a formation for days, and we couldn’t even get out. If he hadn’t let us go, we’d still be stuck in there. Besides, the fact that he dared release us means he’s already prepared for anything. Don’t act recklessly, okay?”

Ever since He Ziqing defeated the demonic cult leader in that famous battle, he’d been acting like he was invincible. No brain, all brawn. His motto now was basically: if you don’t like it, fight me.

Fei Chen added, “Miss Lin has a point. Xian Wuming is skilled with poison. For all we know, we might already be poisoned without even realizing it. It's better to wait and see for now.”

Ming Yi muttered, “So we’re just going to sit here and watch them get married?”

  That comment left everyone silent.

There was nothing they could say. This was what it meant to be outmatched.

Lin Qingyan suddenly said, “I haven’t seen Pei Ji. Did he get lost in the forest? Or did that Xian Wuming take him somewhere?”

Fei Chen shook his head. “I do not know.”

The others had no answer either. Pei Ji had gotten lost in the forest, and during the five days they were trapped inside, they never saw him again.

All they could do now was hope he was safe.

Though they were seated as honored guests, in truth they were no different from prisoners. After a round of discussion, everyone just sat there gloomily, silent and heavy-hearted.

That was the scene An Jiu walked into, hand in hand with the man beside her.

She didn’t understand why her friends all looked so unhappy. Letting go of his hand, she quickly stepped forward and raised her voice as she called out to them one by one, “Lin Qingyan, Brother He! Ming Yi, Master Fei Chen!”

Then her eyes lit up as they landed on a woman in gold. “Jin Yanwan! You’re here too!”

Her voice snapped everyone out of their daze. They all turned toward her.

Though An Jiu had technically been ‘confined’ in the Qiansha Pavilion, she hadn’t been mistreated in the slightest. Her life these past few days had been more than comfortable—good food, good drink, personal attendants, and most importantly, her beloved by her side. Her face was rosy and glowing, her eyes bright and lively. She didn’t look the least bit like someone being held against her will.

The moment Ming Yi saw her, he couldn’t look away.

Dressed in bright red, with vivid makeup and breathtaking beauty, she looked like a blooming begonia. Yet both of her marriages had nothing to do with him.

He couldn’t help blurting out, “An Jiu, are you marrying him of your own will?”

As he spoke, he raised his hand and pointed straight at the man behind her.

Everyone present was seeing the legendary Pavilion Master of Qiansha Pavilion, Xian Wuming, for the first time, and they all focused their attention on him.

Since it was his big wedding day, the man wasn’t wearing a mask.

He had a surprisingly upright and proper face, nothing like what they imagined a notorious assassin leader would look like. With his sharp brows, star-like eyes, straight nose, and thin lips, he looked more like a righteous hero than a feared killer.

The moment they saw him, everyone froze for a second, then immediately turned to glance at He Ziqing.

Lin Qingyan instinctively said, “They look kind of alike.”

Their facial features weren’t all that similar when examined closely. But there was a similar vibe about them—maybe it was the face shape or that same strong, righteous aura. Either way, the first impression felt weirdly alike.

Jin Yanwan nodded repeatedly and whispered, “They do look quite similar.”

Ming Yi wasn’t interested in appearances. He was still staring at the girl in the red wedding dress and asked, “Don't interrupt me. An Jiu, you tell us. Are you really choosing to be with him? You’re not being forced? You really love him, from the bottom of your heart?”

He clenched his jaw and added, “If you really love him, then it’s our mistake. We’ll eat your wedding feast and leave right after. But if you’re not, even if I have to risk my life, I’ll get you out of here!”

An Jiu froze on the spot.

His words, said in this kind of setting, were really bold. The man approaching slowly didn’t show any reaction, though. He looked completely calm and at ease, watching them quietly.

Ming Yi was waiting for An Jiu’s reply. So was he.

He wanted them all to witness it with their own eyes—to hear her say it herself. That she loved him, that she wanted to stay by his side.

The girl stared blankly at the familiar faces around the table. She stood there dazed for a while, then suddenly asked a question that had nothing to do with anything, “Where’s Pei Ji? Why isn’t Pei Ji here?”

The real Pei Ji, wearing the mask of Xian Wuming, paused mid-step. Before he could respond, An Jiu turned to him with a pout and said, “It’s not a full celebration without him.”

Her soft red lips were slightly pursed, and her delicate fingers lightly hooked his. With a gentle, kittenish tone, she said, “I want to share this happy moment with every one of my friends. Not a single one can be missing. Can you bring Pei Ji here?”

When it came to her requests, he always gave in.

Even though this one was a bit tricky, it wasn’t impossible.

One person couldn’t split into two, but Qiansha Pavilion had plenty of assassins skilled in disguise and voice mimicry. No one would notice the difference.

Why not have someone else impersonate Pei Ji instead? Simple. Pei Ji’s aura was too unique.

These people knew him too well. It’d be easy to spot the fake.

After the wedding banquet was over, he would find an excuse for Pei Ji to disappear, then go spend the wedding night with the bride.

  Everything was perfect.

The man thought through all of this silently, but on the surface, he simply smiled and said, “Didn’t you say a few days ago that you wanted Divine Doctor Pei to treat you? I had him brought over separately. If you want to see him, I’ll have him come right away.”

With that, he left the banquet on his own, seemingly going to fetch this ‘Doctor Pei’ himself.

Everyone at the table had witnessed the exchange with their own eyes, and their hearts sank heavily.

The way An Jiu looked at him with that shy affection, the girlish sweetness in her demeanor—it was clear as day. Could she really have fallen for Xian Wuming?

“Does a love gu really change someone this much?” Lin Qingyan whispered, keeping her voice low.

“I don’t know,” Jin Yanwan shook her head, rubbing her arms as she shivered a little. “If it is a love gu, then that’s terrifying.”

He Ziqing chimed in, “Miss An really seems like a different person.”

“Which means it probably is the love gu,” someone muttered. “There’s no way An Jiu would change her entire personality just because she fell in love. Back when she was with Pei Ji, she was never like this.”

Just as they said that, Lin Qingyan suddenly realized something very serious. “Wait… but we don’t actually have a way to remove a love gu, do we?”

Everyone exchanged looks. For a moment, all of them were completely stunned.
