Spoiled Eldest Miss x Two-faced Madman

CHAPTER 120: “But I Can’t Accept This.”

【Host, what are you going to do?】

  “Can’t you tell?”

【Don’t you want to stay by Pei Ji’s side?】

“I thought you knew. I’ve only ever wanted to go home.”

The wedding day arrived as scheduled, and guests from all over the land started arriving at Medicine King Valley one after another.

Each of them came with a name and a reputation—some were legendary seniors of the jianghu, others top experts of the current generation. Whether they owed favors to Pei Zhou or Pei Ji, they all showed up with generous gifts in hand.

An Jiu recognized quite a few of them. They were fellow martial artists who had once joined the campaign against the Demonic Sect. Back then, they’d been poisoned by the Five-Colored Starflower’s toxin and were later stabilized thanks to Pei Ji’s help.

In the martial world, life-saving grace is never taken lightly. As soon as the wedding invitations were sent out, most rushed to Medicine King Valley without a second thought, no matter where they were.

Medicine King Valley had never been this lively before.

Unfortunately, An Jiu wasn’t staying there. As the wedding date drew near, she went to Zhùjiàn Villa.

Even though neither she nor Pei Ji had parents to honor, some traditions still had to be followed—like not seeing each other before the wedding.

That rule didn’t really mean much to the two of them. After all, An Jiu had stayed in Medicine King Valley for months, even sharing the same room with him. But Pei Ji had personally said that he wanted to give her a proper wedding.

After all, An Jiu had been married twice before, and neither time could be considered fulfilling. There were always regrets, and the outcomes were never happy.

Pei Ji couldn’t help but feel a little anxious. He wasn’t usually superstitious, but this time he couldn’t shake off the feeling. He was afraid that if they broke tradition, things might not end well.

So he went to talk to Lin Qingyan’s parents and asked if they could treat Zhùjiàn Villa as An Jiu’s maiden home, so she could depart from there.

  Of course, they happily agreed.

Three days before the wedding, An Jiu moved into Zhùjiàn Villa. That man who used to cling to her nonstop and would get restless after not seeing her for just half a day, now was surprisingly well-behaved and didn’t visit her even once.

On the day of the wedding, An Jiu smoothly slipped into her wedding dress on her own, letting others do her hair and makeup.

Honestly, getting married wasn’t anything new to her.

But this time, it really was the most formal and grand.

Once everything on her side was ready, she waited at Zhùjiàn Villa. As dusk approached, golden-orange clouds lit up the sky. A young man dressed in striking red came riding a tall horse at the head of the wedding procession. He personally took her hand and led her into the wedding sedan.

The wedding was, of course, supposed to be held at dusk.

But funnily enough, the first two times, it didn’t go right at all..

An Jiu had a red veil over her head, so she couldn’t see his expression, but she could feel his hand holding hers. His palm was damp, slightly sweaty.

For as long as she had known him, she didn’t think she’d ever seen him this nervous.

She sat inside the bridal sedan, holding a red apple in her hands. With the festive sound of drums and gongs echoing around her, the sedan slowly began to sway forward.

A breeze swept past, lifting the sheer curtain by the window. She lifted a corner of her veil and saw a dark chestnut horse walking beside the sedan.

The groom’s crimson robes fluttered in the wind. Just then, she accidentally met his gaze as he turned his face toward her. His usual pale complexion carried clear signs of joy today, and his dark eyes were bright like stars.

Their eyes met, and both of them froze for a second.

An Jiu blinked, then quickly dropped the veil. Just before it fell, she thought she saw the curve of his smile deepen, the joy in his eyes even more obvious.

He really did look so happy.

Lowering her head, An Jiu began to think slowly.

Her fingertips pressed into the red apple. They had left from the Zhùjiàn Villa around dusk, and by the time they arrived at Medicine King Valley, it was nearly ten at night. The apple in her palm had been squeezed so long it was soft, the juice pooling just under the skin.

Tonight, the moon was full. Its light poured down like frost—cool and clear.

An Jiu could only see a small patch of space beneath her bridal veil. She felt the sedan come to a stop, then a slender hand lifted the curtain. The palm turned upward, fingers long and defined, reaching out to her.

Moonlight fell on the hand, making it look like smooth, translucent jade.

  “Jiu’er, come.”

A deep, gentle voice sounded by her ear, like the soft strum of a zither, flowing straight into her heart.

Slowly, An Jiu reached out and placed her hand in his. The moment her fingertips touched his palm, he closed his hand around hers.

His palm was still damp with sweat. An Jiu had a slight cleanliness obsession and instinctively tried to pull back, but his grip tightened, not letting her retreat even a little.

The night was deep and dark, but they were surrounded by people.

Some were whispering quietly, others laughing in low voices, but as the groom led the bride into the house, all those scattered sounds gradually faded away. Only the festive clang of drums and gongs remained.

Someone in front held a red lantern, lighting the way.

An Jiu was firmly led by that warm, damp hand across the threshold. Behind her, the sound of firecrackers exploded in sharp, crackling bursts.

The two of them came to a stop in the main hall, and that hand finally let go of hers.

An Jiu had already heard Lin Qingyan explain this whole process before, so she knew it was finally time for the wedding ceremony.

Sure enough, not long after, she saw a figure through the red veil—it was the ceremonial officiant.

They said he was a well-respected elder from the martial world, with old ties to the Medicine King Valley, which was why he had come to preside over this wedding.

The officiant stood in front of them and announced loudly, “First bow, to Heaven and Earth.”

Out of the corner of her eye, An Jiu glanced to her right. She saw the hem of his red robe swaying as his shadow, cast by the lantern light, slowly bent forward in a perfect ninety-degree bow.

She followed suit, bowing down bit by bit.

Even though she was wearing wedding clothes once before, this was actually her first time truly going through a wedding ceremony.

  “Second bow, to the elders.”

They turned to face a different direction and bowed again.

But instead of elders, they were bowing toward a few memorial tablets.

  “Third bow, to each other.”

They turned to face one another and bowed once more.

“Ceremony complete. Send the couple to the bridal chamber,” the officiant called out loudly, like a signal. Gradually, the once-quiet hall began to fill with the sounds of cheerful chatter.

  【Pei Ji’s affection for you +1. Current: 99.】

Some people shouted out congratulations to the groom, some were tossing out auspicious phrases, and there was the clinking of coins being thrown. Laughter filled the hall, like it was truly a day worth celebrating.

An Jiu’s hand, hanging by her side, was grabbed again. The man's fingers trembled slightly, and he held her so tightly she felt a faint sting of pain.

That tiny bit of pain, in the middle of all the noise and joy, felt like a needle poking right through a beautiful dream.

【The favorability is at 99, Host. Congratulations—you’re almost done with your mission. Once it hits 100, that’s it. Are you still planning to go home?】

  “Of course.”

【You didn’t actually need to sacrifice yourself. Even if Pei Ji detoxified with Wen Yueling, with your skills, you could still hit 100 favorability, right?】

An Jiu stayed quiet for a moment, then shook her head. “But I can't accept that.”

  【Can’t accept what?】

  “That he touched another woman.”

It wasn’t about being kind. She wasn’t some noble or gentle person. Pei Ji had killed plenty of people—if he wanted to kill Wen Yueling, she wouldn’t care.

But if he touched other women… it would just make her feel dirty.

【I thought you didn’t have feelings for your targets. That you wouldn’t care about something like this.】

“Maybe I’m just a clean freak.”

An Jiu lowered her eyes without a word and gave a faint tug at the corner of her lips.

T/N: I won’t upload tomorrow because I’ll be busy preparing, translating, and proofreading 5 chapters.

Final chapter schedule:

Friday, July 25: Chapter 121 – Chapter 125

Sunday, July 27: (EXTRA) Chapter 126 – Chapter 130

To be honest, I have this one tiny curse. Um, this novel actually has one last extra (Chapter 131), but—hehe—like I mentioned in MDCM’s last chapter (if you read it), my JJWXC account is having issues, and I’ve been too lazy to fix it. So… (sweating a lot) please don’t throw your sandals at me for skipping the last extra! It’s just one chapter… maybe it’s not that important? 😅

Oh, and by the way, after that, I’ll be taking a one-week break, okay? And no, it’s not the usual excuse—like being sick or busy. 😅 I’ve actually read 5 different novels and rejected all of them. I still haven’t found a new one to translate and upload for you guys.

This time, I want something modern. But ugh… too many plot holes, Mary Sues, slow-burn romances, ambiguous endings, etc.

(╯ರ ~ ರ)╯︵ ┻━┻

So yeah, I’ll use the break to read and search for a good novel. As always, I can’t translate anything I don’t genuinely like. I don’t want to drop it halfway and waste my time and effort. If I do something, it MUST be because I love it. 😁

  4. I love it that you translate something you really like. As a reader, we can really tell when the translator love or hate the project. I have read a really nice novel but the translator had such disdain for it that she always left snarky comments in T/N. I never got to finish that novel purely becuse of that xD

    1. Aww thank you 🥺 I really agree with you—translation feels so different when the heart isn’t in it. I’m glad I always come across novels that I genuinely enjoy 🤭 and yeah, snarky T/Ns can really change the reading experience… it pulls you out of the story 😭 I’m just happy you’re enjoying the ones I choose 💖
