Time-Travel: The Tragic Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Makes a Comeback

CHAPTER 2: The 1970s Naive Supporting Girl (2)

Song Susu rubbed her temples. This was way too saintly. Calling it “kindness” felt off—more like weakness.

Her naivety was so obvious that anyone could take advantage of her.

Listening to this story made her feel a little frustrated, and of course, just at that moment, someone had to come stir trouble.

“Song Susu, didn’t I tell you to bring me my meal? What are you dawdling for?”

A sharp female voice cut through the air.

Song Susu looked up and saw a tall girl storming down the aisle. Her short hair barely touched her ears, her features flat and plain, and her expression was full of annoyance as she glared at her.

“What are you looking at? Bring me my food!”

Guo Juan’s face was twisted with displeasure. Looking at Song Susu’s already prettier face only made her more annoyed for no reason at all.

“Cover your bangs! Who told you to open them like that, looking all flirty?”

Her friend Song Lili had specifically instructed her to “teach that flirtatious cousin a lesson.”

Sure enough, the girl had no intention of behaving. She was already planning to show off and attract men the moment she boarded the train.

  “Guo Juan, right?”

  Song Susu flexed her wrists.

In her memory, this cousin’s friend had spent plenty of time in the countryside ruining her reputation, eventually leading to the abusive man targeting her.

With a smile on her face, Song Susu said to Liu Yingzi, “Comrade, make way for me.”

Liu Yingzi was also annoyed at Guo Juan’s tone. She quickly stood up and stepped aside.

  Smack!

  Smack!

Song Susu didn’t waste any words. She delivered a pair of crisp slaps.

Guo Juan froze, dumbfounded, staring at her in disbelief. “Song Susu, you crazy b*tch!” she screamed.

  Smack!

  Song Susu landed another slap.

  “Ah—ah!”

Song Susu glanced at her calmly and said, “With a mouth that dirty, you’ve definitely eaten a lot of crap. Should I help you spit it out? Feeling better now?”

Guo Juan’s cheeks went numb. When her gaze met Song Susu’s dark, piercing eyes, she shivered and instinctively took a step back out of fear.

She had always been the kind of girl who didn’t fight back, who never answered insults. What was happening today? It was like seeing a ghost.

She subtly retreated, covering her throbbing, stinging face with her hands, and stubbornly tried to threaten, “Y-You dare hit me? Lili won’t let you get away with this.”

“Huh? Lili? What does she have to do with me?”

Song Susu reached up to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear. Guo Juan panicked, thinking another slap was coming, and scrambled backward, losing her balance and falling to the ground.

  “Ha ha ha!”

The people nearby burst into laughter.

Everyone was an adult and not a fool. They could clearly see that the girl who fell had started the trouble. Anyone with sense wasn’t going to interfere.

A few self-righteous types thought the little girl had gone too far, hitting too hard, but no one dared say anything. After all, the sound of those slaps had been sharp and satisfying.

Guo Juan gritted her teeth, her face red with embarrassment, and slunk away.

With the crowd dispersed, Song Susu returned to her seat. Liu Yingzi flopped down excitedly beside her and gave her a thumbs-up.

Lowering her voice in excitement, she said, “Comrade Susu, you were amazing just now! That girl ran off with her tail between her legs. She’ll never show her face again.”

Those three crisp, precise slaps were just… satisfying to watch.

Liu Yingzi didn’t say the next part out loud, but her eyes sparkled even more as she looked at Song Susu.

Beautiful and strong—she really wanted to be friends with her.

Noticing Liu Yingzi staring so eagerly, Song Susu smiled and said, “People like that only pick on the weak. The more you show weakness, the more they bully you. Stand your ground, and they get scared.”

Liu Yingzi immediately nodded. After a moment, she clenched her fists and whispered, “You’re right, Comrade Susu. People like that only pick on the weak. Last time I was traveling to the countryside on a train, some old man kept pushing me in a crowd and deliberately touched my waist. I was scared and just kept quiet. I wish I could have been brave like you back then.”

Hearing this, a trace of emotion appeared on Song Susu’s face. She comforted her softly, “It’s okay. No one is born brave. He did something wrong, so you don’t need to blame yourself. Next time, learn to be a little fierce.”

Liu Yingzi scratched her head shyly. “My family is poor. After fights or arguments, I always worried I’d cause trouble for them, so over time I just endured it.”

Song Susu rested her chin on her hand and gazed out the train window. Normally, she didn’t want to talk about anything outside her mission.

But she thought of girls—such beautiful creatures—who shouldn’t be bullied by those disgusting men.

Tilting her head, she fixed her sharp, bright eyes on Liu Yingzi. “You’re afraid of trouble. What do you think ‘trouble’ really is?”

Liu Yingzi froze and blurted out, “I’m afraid he’ll come to my house and cause problems, make us pay.”

Song Susu let out a soft sigh. “Don’t be afraid. Most of it is just meant to scare you. People like that are rare. The ones you actually meet are usually ordinary people. Powerful or influential people are few and far between.”

“They only bully girls like you because they know you’re scared. In situations like that, you can throw caution to the wind, act fierce, stomp hard, speak up loudly about what they did. That’s always stronger than staying silent.”

“The reason fierce girls rarely get targeted is that most people, like you, don’t want to make a scene. The sneakier the person, the more cowardly they really are. If you glare at them and speak firmly, they’ll be the ones who get scared.”

She had completed so many missions and seen all kinds of people that she thought she understood human nature fairly well.

The upper-class types didn’t bother dealing with the little people. As for the lower levels, most of those who liked to cause trouble only dared to pick on the honest and timid. At least from what she had seen, fierce girls rarely got bullied.

So if a girl was at the bottom of society with no one to back her up, she needed to learn to be thick-skinned, to dare to fight back and act tough. That was the only way to protect herself as much as possible.

After Song Susu finished speaking, Liu Yingzi sat stunned for a long moment, her mind clearer than it had ever been.

Her words planted a whole new understanding in her head. Liu Yingzi recalled so many memories, and her eyes gradually grew red.

From childhood, her parents and the people around her had only ever told her not to cause trouble. No one had ever taught her that there's a way to protect herself.

The train announced its arrival at the station. The staff used a loudspeaker to call out for passengers getting off at S City, and people started packing up their things.

Song Susu grabbed her bag and got ready to leave. Liu Yingzi snapped back to reality, stood up, and moved aside to let her pass. She finally remembered to say thanks.

“Comrade Susu, thank you! Thank you for teaching me this. I’ll become braver and braver from now on.”

“Oh, I’m from Qing City. I’m assigned to the Heihegou Brigade. I hope we’ll meet again someday.”

Song Susu smiled and waved at her. “We will, Comrade Liu Yingzi.”

The Heihegou Brigade was where the abusive man she would marry lived. That kind of scum and beast was someone Song Susu would have to face sooner or later.

  ……

  At the same time,

  The Song Family.

“Where’s Song Susu? She’s still not back!”

Song Jiabao hurried into the house, a briefcase tucked under his arm.

Mother Song heard her youngest son from the kitchen and rushed out without even taking off her apron.

“Jiabao, you’re back. Your sister-in-law took Lili to pick her up. They should be back soon, don’t worry. Sit down and have an apple or something.”

Song Jiabao waved his mother’s hand away, his face full of frustration.

“Apple? Who has time for that? Nana’s been urging us for days. That new house is being eyed by a bunch of people. Today’s the deadline. If we don’t pay now, it’ll be sold to someone else, and that 500 yuan deposit will go straight down the drain.”

T/N: Bohooo, my dearest readers, I need a little help. If you don’t vibe with this novel yet, please hold off on giving it one star for now. I only have a few chapters out. The story is actually solid. Yes, there are a couple of plot holes here and there, but every world is written really nicely, and you’ll still get your face slaps, revenge, and that satisfying payoff.

The only reason I’m asking is because this novel still isn’t appearing on Google search. I already submitted a request to the NU admin. I don’t want another translator to pick it up thinking no one is working on it, and I also don’t want unnecessary drama. If something like that happens, I might actually drop it.

Once more chapters are out and it finally shows up on Google search, you can give me one star if you truly feel that way. Five stars would be amazing, of course, but I can’t control how anyone rates it. I just want it to appear properly on search first. 🥺🙏
