Time-Travel: The Tragic Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Makes a Comeback

CHAPTER 4: The 1970s Naive Supporting Girl (4)

Song Zhiqiang was only eight years old. After being pinned down and beaten by Song Yuanchao earlier, the fear and pain had not fully faded. He clung tightly to his mother, his face a mess of tears and snot, and cried even louder. “Mom! Song Yuanchao hit me!”

The moment Liu Fang heard that, she exploded. “Song Yuanchao, you little bastard, get out here right now! How dare you bully our Zhiqiang. You really must have a death wish today!”

Seeing how fiercely his sister-in-law doted on her son, Song Jiabao felt relieved and spoke up. “That little beast has already been dealt with. Dad took him back to the room to tend to his injuries.”

As he spoke, Song Jiabao’s gaze shifted to the girl standing beside his niece.

“So you’re Susu, huh? It’s only been two months and you’ve grown into a young lady already. Since you’re back, come with me to the housing bureau…”

He spoke while getting to his feet, secretly pleased that the timing worked out perfectly. As long as he brought her to sign the papers and got the money, he could immediately lock in the new house.

Song Jiabao walked up to his niece, the smile on his face not yet gone, when the next second, his face snapped to the side.

  Pa!

The sharp, ringing slap stunned everyone present.

Even Song Zhiqiang stopped crying, staring blankly at his cousin who had always been timid and barely dared to lift her head.

Song Susu looked at him calmly and asked, “Who gave you permission to hit my brother?”

Song Jiabao snapped back to his senses. The moment he heard that, his face darkened. Without thinking, he raised his hand to slap her back. “You damn girl, how dare you hit me!”

But his hand was stopped midair.

Song Susu lightly twisted his wrist and bent it, and the man immediately let out a piercing scream.

  “Ah! My hand!”

Song Jiabao’s face flushed red with pain. He struggled with all his strength before finally wrenching his arm free, stumbling back a few steps as he stared at his niece in disbelief.

Her arm was thinner than his, yet with just one turn of her grip, she had nearly twisted his arm off. It was like she had been possessed.

Song Lili and Liu Fang had already witnessed Song Susu’s changes on the way back. Seeing that she could even do this now, they were both thoroughly shaken.

Song Lili’s delicate face filled with suspicion as she blurted out, “You… you’re not Song Susu at all! Who are you, really?”

Song Susu clapped her hands and deliberately put on a creepy tone. “I’m your great-grandmother. I’m here to take you unfilial descendants down below for a family reunion.”

After saying that, she suddenly stretched out her arms and took a sharp step forward. Everyone jumped back half a step in fright.

  “Ah! Don’t come any closer!”

Song Zhiqiang buried himself in his mother’s arms and started wailing again, clearly terrified.

Seeing how easily scared they were, Song Susu rolled her eyes and gave a soft snort. Without another word, she turned and headed straight for Father Song’s room.

  Inside the room,

Father Song frowned as he rubbed medicated wine onto the boy’s abdomen. Song Yuanchao was unconscious, but the pain still made him let out weak groans, crying out for his sister through clenched teeth.

“You’re a boy. Be tougher and stop crying. Your uncle didn’t mean it either. If you hadn’t gone and hit Zhiqiang for no reason, this wouldn’t have happened.”

As he muttered, Father Song also cursed his youngest son for being too heavy-handed. There were two large boot-shaped bruises on the child’s stomach, dark purple near the center. It was hard to tell if his internal organs had been injured.

But taking him to the hospital now was risky. If the higher-ups found out and things got blown up, it would be hard to explain.

Besides, Song Susu was about to return. She might be soft-hearted, but if she found out her brother had been beaten this badly, who knew if she would still cooperate and sign the papers.

Father Song roughly treated the wounds, wiped away the bloodstains, and was just about to help the boy get dressed when the door was suddenly kicked open.

  Bang!

He jumped in fright and instinctively stood up, spinning around.

When he saw that it was Song Susu who had come in, he immediately stepped in front of the bed, spreading his arms to block Song Yuanchao from her sight, and snapped at her impatiently.

“You rude little thing. Not knocking is bad enough, but who told you to kick the door? Get out.”

Song Susu had already caught sight of her brother behind him.

The ten-year-old child’s arms were thinner than those of a six or seven-year-old. He was tall enough, but there was barely any flesh on his body. His upper body was still undressed, and the large patches of blue and purple bruises on his abdomen were painfully obvious.

Song Susu’s anger exploded in an instant. She stepped forward and kicked the old man aside, then bent down and lifted the trembling boy into her arms.

He was so light, almost weightless. His face was bruised and swollen, his ribs stuck out against his chest, and the two clear, boot-shaped bruises on his abdomen made her heart ache just looking at them.

He whimpered softly like a kitten, tears clinging to the corners of his eyes, calling out in pain one moment and calling “sister” the next.

She had really overestimated this family.

In the original plot, there were only a few lines about this younger brother. Compared to his sister, it seemed like he had not suffered much.

She had thought that Song Susu, being a girl, was being mistreated, but at least this brother was the eldest son's bloodline; his grandparents shouldn't be so cruel.

Reality slapped her hard in the face.

A child without parents was nothing more than a blade of grass.

Beating a child this viciously, the entire Song family did not deserve to be called human.

Song Susu was truly furious now. She turned around and kicked Father Song straight in the stomach.

“A kid this small isn’t sent to the hospital, and you’re standing here blocking the door like this? So if your son dies, it’s fine, but a grandson with no one backing him can just be beaten however you want, huh? You don’t have parents either. How about I give you a few kicks and see how that feels!”

Father Song was already getting on in years. After being kicked several times in a row, sharp pain tore through his insides. He could not even cry out, only clutching his stomach as cold sweat poured down his face.

After he barely recovered enough to breathe, he gasped angrily, “Song Susu, you’re absolutely outrageous…”

Seeing that he still dared to run his mouth, Song Susu had no free hand. She lifted her foot and kicked him hard in the cheek.

“Still think that was too light? You old bastard, you still have the face to yap here. Hurry up and go apologize to your ancestors.”

That kick left half his face numb, his head spinning. Hearing such rebellious words, he raised a trembling finger at her. “You… you…”

He barely got the words out before his head tilted to the side and he passed out from sheer rage.

Song Susu ignored him completely and strode out, holding her brother tightly.

Song Jiabao panicked, afraid that taking the boy to the hospital would attract attention from the higher-ups. He rushed forward to stop her.

  “You’re not allowed to go—”

He struggled desperately to snatch Song Yuanchao from her arms.

Song Susu moved with lightning reflexes, dodging his grasp. Alone, she had full control, but with the child in her arms, her hands were full, otherwise she might have given him a couple more kicks just for good measure.

  “Get lost!”

After her body enhancement, her strength was several times that of a normal person. She kicked with full force, sending Song Jiabao sprawling to the ground, stunned for several seconds.

Neither Liu Fang nor Song Lili dared to move forward. They cowered behind, barely daring to lift their heads.

Song Susu carried her brother straight out to the street. Neighbors had already heard the commotion from the Song household.

The moment Song Susu rushed out, cradling Song Yuanchao, the neighbors all swarmed over at once.

As she moved through the crowd, Song Susu shouted, “Clear the way! Let me through! Help me get a car! My brother has been abused by the Song family. Song Jiabao even kicked him unconscious. He’s in critical condition. Please, someone help!”

When people saw the boy’s pale, lifeless face in her arms, they immediately jumped into action.

“Who has a car? Quick, get this child to the hospital!”

Just then, a military green jeep happened to pass by. The crowd waved frantically to stop it.

The man inside, Lu Tingxiao, heard that a child’s life was in danger and immediately got out to help.

Before Song Susu even had a chance to see him clearly, her brother was already taken into a pair of strong, capable arms.
