Time-Travel: The Tragic Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Makes a Comeback

CHAPTER 25: The 1970s Naive Supporting Girl (25)

Just as Song Susu and her little brother were planning their trip to Heihegou Brigade, Jiang Xiaoli, on her way to the black market for business, waited at a street corner for someone.

Wang Mazi spotted her and immediately let his gaze wander, scanning her chest. He grinned and called out in a lewd tone, “Xiaoli, huh? Waiting here just for your uncle?”

Suppressing her disgust, Jiang Xiaoli forced a polite smile and replied, “Uncle Wang, someone asked me to deliver a message to you.”

Wang Mazi had only been joking, but it turned out she really was waiting for him. His interest immediately piqued, and he rubbed his hands together, creeping closer with a leering smile.

  “Is that person… you?”

Jiang Xiaoli couldn’t help but feel a little scared. She stepped back, furrowed her brows, and warned, “Wang Mazi! Don’t move an inch! I only called you ‘uncle’ out of respect. My older brothers are not far from here. If you don't want to hear it, leave now.”

Hearing this, Wang Mazi instinctively scanned the area and felt a bit intimidated by the two Jiang brothers nearby. He touched his chin and squinted at Jiang Xiaoli with a lecherous grin.

“All right, then. What do you need from me?”

Suppressing her disgust at his gaze, Jiang Xiaoli quickly said, “You know Song Zhiqing, right? She came crying to me, saying you touched her leg and now she’s embarrassed to meet anyone. If you can change your ways and apologize to her, maybe you two could even have a future together.”

  “What?”

Wang Mazi thought he must be hallucinating. When did he ever touch anyone’s leg? And yet, if this really happened, it was like the heavens were dropping a fortune into his lap.

But Wang Mazi was no fool. He kept his doubts to himself and just smiled at Jiang Xiaoli.

“Xiaoli, didn’t you used to protect that Song Zhiqing? Why the sudden change today? Did you two girls fight or something?”

Jiang Xiaoli’s face darkened. She couldn’t stand hearing that slut’s name. “Don’t bother with anything else. Just tell me if you’ll do it or not.”

Wang Mazi’s eyes lit up. “Do it? Of course.”

No matter what else, a young, pretty wife practically handed to him? He was more than happy.

Jiang Xiaoli let out a breath of relief and quickly laid out her plan. “Just make it public that you kindly saved Song Zhiqing, and that you were all embracing and making things ambiguous. Then, propose to Song Zhiqing in front of everyone, trying to appear as sincere as possible. Even a virtuous woman can be won over by persistent suitors; once her reputation is ruined, she'll still end up with you.”

Wang Mazi chuckled upon hearing this, his sly eyes gleaming as he teased, “Xiaoli, didn’t expect you to be this cunning.”

Indeed, as the old opera singers say, the most poisonous heart is that of a woman.

Jiang Xiaoli appears amiable and kind, with a pair of dimples on her round face, giving her a cheerful and honest appearance, but in reality, she is ruthless and vicious.

She didn’t want to waste words with someone like him. “If you’re willing, then do it. If not, forget it. Plenty of people would be happy to take the job anyway.”

Wang Mazi got anxious, rubbed his nose, and said ingratiatingly. “Come on, I already agreed. You just cover for me a little, I’ll do my part.”

“Since I asked you to do this, of course I’ll cover for you. You just need to act your part properly,” Jiang Xiaoli said, her tone calm but commanding.

Her plan accomplished, she turned and strode off quickly. If anyone saw her talking to Wang Mazi, who knows what rumors would start.

Wang Mazi had only gone out for a stroll, never expecting to run into such an opportunity.

The thought of the fair and pretty Song Zhiqing made his mouth water. He gave his pants a lewd tug, grinning slyly as he walked into the village.

  ……

Song Susu thought it over and decided it would be better to head to Heihegou Brigade as soon as possible. She told her brother to stay inside and pack the things they needed to bring.

She herself went out to look for Wang Fugui to rent a ride.

Wang Fugui’s house was at the entrance of the village. At this hour, most people were out working in the fields.

Song Susu wrapped a scrap of cloth around her head to block the sun and wore the old clothes she used to work in. Walking along the road like this, she did not draw much attention.

Just as she neared the village entrance, she saw seven or eight middle aged men and women gathered under a locust tree ahead, seemingly watching some kind of commotion.

Song Susu only knew that Wang Fugui lived near the village entrance. She did not know exactly which house it was.

So she quickened her pace, planning to ask around.

But before she even got close, she heard her own name.

Song Susu frowned and simply stopped behind the crowd to listen in.

“She was scared out of her wits by a wild snake and kept throwing herself into my arms. I said no, but she insisted. She clung to me like a gecko. Sigh, it was an emergency after all. We were both lightly dressed. And lately, she's been trying to seduce me too.”

Wang Mazi spoke vaguely, layering implication upon implication, wiggling his brows as he let out a sleazy laugh.

Some people clearly did not believe him. One aunt scoffed and said, “Wang Mazi, aren’t you just bragging? You could be her father. Is she blind enough to fancy you?”

Another woman chimed in, “Exactly. Stop ruining her reputation. She’s from the City. With all those young men around, why would she choose a filthy guy like you, crawling with lice?”

A man nearby joined in loudly, “Why not? A girl needs her reputation. Once she loses her purity, haha, then it’s marry a chicken, follow the chicken. Marry a dog, follow the dog.”

Some people laughed along. Others waved their hands, enjoying the spectacle.

Song Susu slowly pushed through the crowd. “Oh? What kind of grand opera are we putting on here?”

This scene was not in the original plot at all. Someone like Wang Mazi was obviously being used as a tool.

As for who was behind it, there was no need to guess. It had to be the Jiang family.

When the others saw Song Susu, some hesitated, not recognizing her right away. Those who did know her called out, “Song Zhiqing.”

Wang Mazi stared at Song Susu. Her skin looked as soft as tofu, and those expressive eyes of hers were captivating even when she merely lifted her brows.

He subconsciously raised his sleeve to wipe the drool at the corner of his mouth.

Song Susu shot him a cold look. He snapped back to his senses, suppressing his excitement as he rubbed his hands. “Song Zhiqing…”

  Smack!

Song Susu stepped forward and slapped him across the face, cutting him off mid sentence.

“Wang Mazi, you really are something. Making up nonsense here just to cover up your own disgusting behavior.”

Everyone’s curiosity was instantly piqued, ears perking up.

That slap was fast, precise, and merciless. Song Susu used all her strength. One of Wang Mazi’s back teeth was knocked loose.

He clutched his cheek as a tooth fell from his mouth along with a streak of blood. He did not know whether he was shaking from anger or pain. When he tried to curse, the movement tugged at his face and he cried out in pain. “Aiyo…”

This was exactly the effect Song Susu wanted. Facing the crowd’s eager gazes, she put on a grave expression and said, “Wang Mazi framed me because I caught him doing something indecent with a wild chicken.”

The crowd stared, eyes wide. Indecent how?

Song Susu nodded seriously. “Exactly what you’re thinking. He was making so much noise that I heard him. When I went over, the chicken was already dead. The scene was horrifying. After that, he threatened me, saying if I told anyone, he’d ruin my reputation.”

She looked pitiful as she continued, “I was so scared that I hid in the City for two days. And today, I come back only to hear him smearing my name here. I have to make this public so everyone knows just how disgusting he is. Please watch your livestock carefully, so none of them end up being harmed by him again.”

  Everyone: “!”

The way the crowd looked at Wang Mazi changed instantly. Disgust and revulsion mixed with a kind of unspeakable shock.

Wang Mazi was already a known scourge in the village. Poor enough to beg everywhere, always fond of messing around and doing shady things.

At his age, still without a woman, so this news didn't seem surprising.

Wang Mazi was so furious his face turned dark red. He opened his mouth to explain, “No, I…”

Song Susu decisively slapped him again.

“You beast, not even worthy of being called human. This slap is for that wronged chicken, to comfort its spirit in heaven.”

Two more teeth fell out of Wang Mazi’s mouth. Overcome by rage and panic, he choked and spat out a mouthful of blood. “You… you…”

Then his eyes rolled back, and he collapsed stiffly to the ground.

The crowd panicked. “Th-this isn’t going to kill him, is it?”

Song Susu remained calm. She shook her head seriously and said, “I exposed the truth. He’s too ashamed to face everyone, so he’s pretending to faint to escape your condemnation.”

“Don’t worry, everyone. I’m going to report this to the police right now. Someone like this is too dangerous to keep in our village. He should be locked up.”

With a carefree wave of her hand, Song Susu headed straight for the brigade office to make the call.
