Time-Travel: The Tragic Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Makes a Comeback

CHAPTER 80: The First Wife of a 1980s Big Shot Who Died Young (13)

Qin Huaijing’s face turned red as he shot up. “Huo Meilan, shut up.”

Who kisses like that, and then has it described so casually like it means nothing? Kissing was supposed to be sweet and intimate, not whatever she just said.

Seeing him actually blush was rare, so Huo Meilan raised a brow and grabbed the hem of his undershirt, pulling him closer.

Then she leaned in and kissed him straight on the lips with a loud “smack.”

She pushed him away right after. “That’s what a real kiss is. If you don’t know, I’ll teach you.”

Qin Huaijing was pushed back slightly. One hand braced on the bed, the other touching his lips as he stared at her with dark eyes.

Huo Meilan straightened her clothes and looked at him again. “What? I kindly teach you and now you feel wronged?”

That seemed to snap something in Qin Huaijing.

He suddenly leaned forward and pressed her down under him, his presence instantly closing in, heavy and intense.

“You want to be my teacher, huh?” he said.

The moment the words left his mouth, he kissed her.

He might not have had experience, but it was just kissing. Who didn’t know how?

So what if she called it ticklish?

He kissed her back hard, like he was determined to prove a point, even copying her earlier exaggerated “smack” sound.

Huo Meilan froze completely. She tried to push him away but couldn’t move him at all, getting kissed so thoroughly she was completely dazed.

In the end, when they finally pulled apart, both of them were breathing a little heavier than usual.

Qin Huaijing felt something was off in his body and immediately got off the bed to grab his clothes and go wash up.

On the bed, Huo Meilan’s cheeks were flushed red, and even the area around her lips was still noticeably rosy.

Thinking about his earlier reckless behavior, she couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh.

Qin Huaijing took quite a while before coming back. He walked in and said as calmly as he could, “Breakfast will be ready soon. Go wash your face.”

  “Mm.” Huo Meilan stretched lazily.

Neither of them mentioned what just happened. After washing up and changing into proper clothes, they went downstairs together for breakfast.

Downstairs, breakfast had been personally prepared by Lai Suyun and Qin Guozhong. They used to have a distant relative from the Lai family helping around the house, but since it was New Year and the relative had gone home to celebrate, the couple handled breakfast themselves today.

There was a pot of warm soy milk, a few simple side dishes, and big meat buns.

Qin Guozhong came from a poor background, so his daily meals were simple and homey, just enough to eat well without any waste.

The breakfast suited Huo Meilan’s taste perfectly, and she ended up eating quite a bit.

It wasn’t obvious upstairs, but downstairs in the dining area, the lighting was bright.

Lai Suyun only needed one glance to notice it. Both of their lips were red, especially Huo Meilan’s. Her fair skin made the redness around her mouth stand out even more.

While she served food to her daughter-in-law, she kept shooting sharp looks at her son.

Honestly, she already saw it coming. He really had no self-control at all. They had only just come back from a long train journey, but he still went and did that to her. The marks were still there, clear as day and not fading at all.

Qin Huaijing caught his mother’s look and followed her gaze. In an instant, his face went a little red.

He didn’t think he had even been that rough.

Lai Suyun spoke up. “Meilan, that boy of mine is sometimes just like a kid. Don’t spoil him too much. If he acts up, you should put him in his place.”

Huo Meilan didn’t quite get it, but she smiled and nodded. “Got it, Mom. If he ever bullies me, I’ll come complain to you.”

Qin Guozhong casually picked some greens onto his son’s plate and reminded him, “You are not allowed to bully Meilan. If I find out, I’ll break your legs.”

Qin Huaijing was speechless. He really felt like he had no status left in this family at all.

“Dad, Mom, is that really how you see me?” he said helplessly. “I love my wife more than anything. Why would I ever bully her? Don’t go trying to stir trouble between us.”

Qin Guozhong burst out laughing. “You brat, have some shame.”

Lai Suyun didn’t even want to look at him anymore. It felt like she was meeting her son for the first time again. Just half a year apart and he had turned shameless and slick-tongued.

Huo Meilan kept a sweet smile on her face as she quietly ate her bun, while under the table, her foot suddenly kicked out.

  “Ah!”

Qin Huaijing yelped before quickly clamping his mouth shut with a grimace.

Noticing everyone staring at him, he coughed lightly and said with a smile, “Just accidentally bumped my foot on the chair.”

Lai Suyun sighed in exasperation. “You get less and less steady the older you get. Acting more and more like a child. Hurry up and eat your breakfast.”

  ……

After breakfast, Qin Huaijing still remembered the photos.

He grabbed Huo Meilan and tried to drag her out the door.

Huo Meilan gave him a deadpan look. “Did you forget what you said last night?”

“I forgot. Don’t remember a thing. So you’re coming with me.”

Qin Huaijing conveniently chose to ignore her words. Since they had already kissed, there was that saying about couples fighting at the head of the bed and making up at the foot of it anyway. Those little squabbles didn’t count for anything.

Maybe when the photos came out, his wife would be happy and reward him with another kiss.

Huo Meilan felt like his skin had thickened again, but staying home alone was boring anyway. She might as well go out for a walk.

Before leaving, Qin Huaijing coughed lightly and reminded her to go back inside and touch up her makeup.

Huo Meilan narrowed her eyes at how guilty he looked. She immediately went to the mirror, and there it was, a bright red ring around her lips.

Thinking she had been walking around like that during breakfast, she got so mad she chased after him and smacked him. Why didn’t he say anything earlier?

Qin Huaijing took the hits and coaxed her for a long while before she finally agreed to leave with him.

He was very familiar with the streets of the capital and didn’t call the driver. He drove them out himself.

First, they went to get the photos developed. Even with express service, the fastest pickup was still in the afternoon.

After that, he took her to the department store to buy New Year supplies.

They didn’t actually lack anything, but for the festive mood, they bought two red scarves, some paper-cut window decorations, “fu” characters, and couplets for the house.

Passing by a women’s clothing store, Qin Huaijing insisted on dragging Huo Meilan inside to pick out new clothes for the New Year.

Huo Meilan didn’t think it was necessary. After all, his mother had already filled the closet at home with brand new clothes, all kinds of styles included.

Qin Huaijing held her hand and lowered his voice. “Are you silly? Too many clothes is still a problem? What Mom bought you and what I buy you as your husband are different. Clothes don’t go bad anyway, just keep them and wear them slowly.”

Afraid he would launch into another long speech, Huo Meilan quickly cut him off. “Fine, fine, we’ll go in. Stop talking.”

Just as they stepped inside, a surprised voice rang out.

  “Brother Huaijing? Is that you!”

Qin Huaijing looked at the long-haired girl across from them and thought for a moment before remembering her. She seemed to be the daughter of Uncle Fang from the compound.

He couldn’t recall her name, only that when he left for the military, this little girl had been crying loudly outside his door with two tiny braids.

He raised a hand to stop her from coming closer and said, “Just call me Qin Huaijing. ‘Brother’ sounds too awkward. This is your sister-in-law, Huo Meilan.”

Fang Jiao froze. She stared at Huo Meilan in disbelief, her face slowly turning pale.

Clutching her bag tightly, she asked hesitantly, “I didn’t hear you got married. Is she your girlfriend?”

Qin Huaijing casually swung Huo Meilan’s hand. “We registered our marriage last autumn. The wedding will be after the New Year.”

Fang Jiao stumbled back a step, her eyes instantly turning red.

  How could this be?

Aunt Lai clearly liked her. Every time they met, she would praise her. Everyone in the compound even teased that she was basically Qin Huaijing’s future wife.

Because of her cousin’s wedding, she had gone to stay with her aunt in Shanghai for two months. A few days ago, her mother mentioned Qin Huaijing was coming back, so she rushed home without hesitation.

And now she found out he was already married.

Fang Jiao simply could not accept it. In her mind, Qin Huaijing was supposed to be hers. Seeing Huo Meilan so beautiful and poised, she completely broke down, shoved past them, and ran out crying.
