Time-Travel: The Tragic Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Makes a Comeback
CHAPTER 108: The 1980s Villain’s Biological Mother (1)
“Mom… wake up…”
The moment Ye Susu regained consciousness, a timid, childish voice sounded beside her ear.
The next second, the door was kicked open with a bang. A woman with a headscarf stood at the doorway, cursing irritably.
“You really think you’re some rich young miss? It’s just a little fall into a puddle, yet you’ve been lying here acting delicate for an entire day. If you don’t get up and work, then don’t even think about eating tomorrow!”
After finishing her rant, the woman continued grumbling under her breath as she walked away.
Ye Susu pressed a hand to her forehead and slowly sat up, only to feel utterly exhausted, as though her body were carrying twenty or thirty extra pounds.
Beside her stood a little girl around three or four years old. The child was poorly clothed, her tiny face thin and dark from malnourishment, her dry hair chopped unevenly in a messy tangle.
Yet her eyes were round and bright.
“Mom…” the little girl called timidly again.
Meeting those fearful eyes, Ye Susu instinctively reached out and gently patted her head in reassurance.
But the little girl flinched in fright and quickly backed away.
Ye Susu barely had the energy to care about that, because her gaze had already fallen onto her own hands.
These were… hands?
Her hands were swollen so badly they looked like pig trotters.
When she lowered her head a little further, she almost blacked out on the spot.
Her waist had at least two full rolls of fat. No wonder she felt so drained the moment she woke up. She was basically a walking pile of weight.
Without wasting another second, she quickly pulled up the story in her mind.
The supporting female character was named Mu Shuhui. She had originally been born into a well-off family, but during a major political upheaval her parents were implicated and sent down. She was then taken in by relatives.
At first, the relatives treated her decently. But as time passed and her parents showed no signs of returning, they stopped caring.
Eventually, her parents completely lost contact and everyone assumed they were gone.
The relatives grew tired of supporting her and began emotionally manipulating her in every way. The original host could not take it anymore and chose to marry and leave.
Mu Shuhui married a soldier. Although her in-laws were somewhat unreasonable, her husband treated her well, and she gave birth to two children after marriage.
She thought life would go on like this.
But last year, her husband died on the battlefield.
The blow hit her hard and she fell seriously ill. Her in-laws did not properly treat her, instead forcing her to take all kinds of folk remedies. She ended up taking the wrong medicine, and her body quickly became severely swollen, until she was so bloated she looked completely different from before.
Her eldest son was six years old, a boy with a bad temper and a rather withdrawn personality.
Her younger daughter was four and a half, timid and shy, and due to malnutrition looked more like a three-year-old.
Seeing that neither child turned out “promising,” the in-laws simply took a boy from the eldest brother’s family to raise instead.
The original host was deeply shaken. Under constant verbal abuse from her mother-in-law’s family, she became mentally foggy and even started to believe she was an ill omen, someone who brought misfortune to her parents, her husband, and even her own children.
She tried her best to reduce contact with the children, afraid she might bring more misfortune upon them.
But that distance only made things worse. The eldest son became even more irritable and withdrawn, while the younger daughter grew increasingly timid and fragile.
Mu Shuhui would pass away from physical exhaustion one year later, leaving the two children completely on their own.
Growing up in such a harsh environment, the brother’s personality slowly twisted, while the sister grew increasingly world-weary. In the end, both of them became villainous supporting characters in this world.
The brother turned into a notorious major antagonist who committed countless crimes and was eventually executed by firing squad.
The sister, worn down by life and detached from the world, failed to save a child who was choking and even watched coldly as the child died. The incident was exposed, and she was attacked by the entire society. In the end, she was followed home and killed with a hammer.
The supporting character mission was: save Mu Shuhui, save the two children, prevent the future tragedies, and change the fate of this mother and her children.
After successfully accepting the mission, Ye Susu became Mu Shuhui and painfully dragged her body out of bed.
The little girl quickly and attentively placed the shoes by her mother’s feet, then retreated to the side again, standing there timidly.
Seeing this, Mu Shuhui felt a pang in her heart. Afraid of frightening the child further, she said nothing.
She stood up, only to realize she could barely even walk properly.
This body was way too heavy. At only around 1.6 meters tall, she must have weighed at least over 180 jin. She could barely adapt, and honestly, she did not even dare imagine what she looked like right now.
Mu Shuhui sat, stood, and walked back and forth for quite a while before finally getting a basic handle on how this body moved.
Her younger daughter was called Er Ya. She did not even have a proper formal name yet.
Mu Shuhui sent the child out to help fetch things while she tried to figure out how to fix this body.
But if the changes were too obvious. She worried that others might treat her like some kind of monster. So, she did not rush into altering her physique. Instead, she first exchanged for a detox pill and took it.
She wanted to clear out the toxins in her body first.
However, the detox pill was far too strong. Not long after taking it, she started running to the toilet nonstop.
The village restroom was nothing more than a simple pit toilet. The stench hit her so hard that she nearly threw up.
In the end, she covered her nose with her sleeve and went back and forth four or five times.
Her legs were weak, but her heavy body already felt noticeably lighter.
Er Ya had been quietly following behind Mu Shuhui the entire time, her head lowered timidly as she nervously tugged at her own ill-fitting clothes, never once leaving her mother’s side.
When Mu Shuhui came out and saw the little girl, she cautiously reached out and took her small hand. The moment she felt the child try to pull away, she tightened her grip.
In a weak and pitiful voice, she said, “Er Ya, Mommy has a bad stomach and can barely stand. It hurts so much. Can you help hold me a little?”
At that, Er Ya panicked. She quickly wrapped both hands around her mother’s arm, her bright eyes looking up as she choked out, “Mommy…”
Grandma said a mother as fat as her would eventually get crushed to death by her own weight.
But Er Ya did not want her mother to die.
Er Ya’s eyes turned red as she cried softly, “Mommy, Er Ya will behave. I will stay far away from you. Please don’t die…”
Mu Shuhui’s heart softened at that. She struggled to bend down and lifted the little girl into her arms.
The child was so thin she barely weighed anything at all.
Holding her, Mu Shuhui gently patted her back and soothed her in a soft voice, “Don’t be scared, Er Ya. Mommy just had a dream about a fairy. The fairy cast a spell on me. I’m not going to die. My body will slowly get better and return to how it was before. Don’t listen to what Grandma and the others are saying.”
It had been a long time since Er Ya had been held like this by her mother.
Her small arms clung tightly around Mu Shuhui, her face pressed against her mother’s chest as tears kept falling.
“Mommy… did the fairy say… you can still hug Brother and Er Ya?”
Mu Shuhui’s throat tightened.
The original host really had been foolish. Because of those unrealistic fears and words, she had deliberately kept the two children at a distance, refusing to let them come close.
For such young children, growing up in an environment where no one loved them, no one cared for them, and even their only source of warmth was taken away, it was no wonder they had become so emotionally numb later on.
Mu Shuhui gently patted Er Ya’s head and said softly, “The fairy said I can. I can hug you both, so from now on, you and your brother don’t have to hide from Mommy anymore.”
Er Ya suddenly broke into loud sobs.
“Waaah…”
She clung to her mother even tighter, afraid that if she let go even a little, everything would disappear like a dream.
“Hey, what are you doing!”
A low, sharp shout from a young boy followed as a small, cannonball-like figure charged in.
The boy’s hair was long, his bangs so overgrown they nearly covered his eyes. There were even a few scrapes on his cheeks.
His eyes were filled with resentment. He rushed straight up to Mu Shuhui, stood on his tiptoes, and grabbed his sister, shouting loudly.
“You don’t deserve to be our mom at all! Give my sister back! Don’t you dare bully her!”
