Time-Travel: The Tragic Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Makes a Comeback
CHAPTER 131: The 1980s Villain’s Biological Mother (24)
Mu Zisheng’s attitude changed completely. He smiled awkwardly and stammered, “So you’re a friend of hers.”
Mu Zisheng let go of Xia Li’s hand and quickly put some distance between them. He cleared his throat and explained, “Ms. Xia and I are friends too. It’s not easy for a woman to raise her children on her own, so I came over today to help her move. What a coincidence that you happened to know each other.”
“I just remembered I have something to take care of. I’d better get going.”
After finishing his explanation, he hurried away as if a pack of dogs were chasing him.
Xia Li’s face first filled with disbelief, then anger. She glared furiously at Mu Shuhui.
“Bitch! What did you say to my man?!”
Mu Shuhui scoffed. “You still don’t get it? Why do you think he ran off so fast? He has a wife at home.”
Xia Li’s expression stiffened. She clenched her fists and argued back, “So what? Stop trying to stir up trouble between us. He and his wife can’t stand each other anymore. They’ll get divorced sooner or later, and we’ll get married.”
Mu Shuhui had thought Xia Li didn’t know about the situation and had kindly tried to warn her that she was being deceived.
Turns out, she knew all along.
Mu Shuhui simply rolled her eyes. Without saying another word, she took the children and went straight home.
Sometimes, saying nothing could be far more cutting than saying anything at all.
Xia Li was so furious that she started cursing at her. “You think you’re any better? You’re just a woman raising two kids. How could you possibly afford to buy an apartment? Who knows what kind of dirty business you’ve been doing behind everyone’s backs!”
Her response was the loud bang of the door slamming shut.
Xia Li was so angry that tears spilled from her eyes as she broke down, screaming, “It’s all that bitch’s fault!”
The two children were frightened into hiding to the side, too scared to say a word.
Xia Zichen looked at his mother, fists clenched, his lips pressed tightly together.
After all, he was already eight years old, and he had always been clever. It wasn’t hard for him to piece together some of what the adults had just been talking about.
The new dad his mother had found for them already had a wife.
Xia Duoduo cautiously called out, “Mom, Uncle Mu is gone. Who’s going to help us move?”
“We’re not moving for now. Let’s go home.”
Xia Li gritted her teeth. The man was already gone, so where were they supposed to move to?
……
Before the children started school, Mu Shuhui took them on a trip to another city to look around.
By the time the family of three returned from their trip, the family across the hall had already moved out.
They were still attending an elementary school nearby, but Mu Shuhui had no idea where exactly they had moved to.
However, she learned from her two children that they had overheard Xia Zichen arguing with his mother at the school gate. He had apparently been saying that he didn’t want a new dad.
After all, he was the future male lead. Once they had crossed paths, there was always a chance that he might cause trouble for them once he became successful. So Mu Shuhui still kept an occasional eye on what the family of three was up to.
When she learned that Xia Li and Mu Zisheng were still secretly seeing each other, Mu Shuhui didn’t alert them or make a move. Instead, she had someone take a few photographs and kept them as insurance for later.
……
Time passed day by day, and before they knew it, twelve years had flown by.
The children had grown up, while Mu Shuhui’s business had steadily expanded. Society itself had also undergone tremendous changes.
Mu Shuhui now owned countless properties, as well as three factories. She had also established her own clothing company. Wang Qin and Zhang Hong, who had started out running the business with her, had since become managers of several stores, overseeing more than a hundred employees.
Mu Shuhui hadn’t quite reached the level of having tens of millions in assets, but she had easily crossed the million-yuan mark and had even gained some recognition in business circles.
Her two children had also grown into fine young adults.
Twenty-one-year-old Mu Rufeng had been admitted to a university in the capital and was now a fourth-year student. He ranked among the top of his class and was even the student council president.
His nineteen-year-old younger sister, Mu Youran, had grown into a beautiful and graceful young woman. She had also successfully been admitted to the Central Academy of Fine Arts the previous year and was now a sophomore.
Mu Shuhui was thirty-nine this year, but she had taken such good care of herself that she still looked barely past thirty.
She was now at perhaps the most carefree stage of her life. She had money, plenty of free time, and two grown children who were sensible enough not to worry her. Her company was also running smoothly, with everything handled by the people working under her.
That left her with plenty of time to enjoy life. This year, she had even taken a trip somewhere.
That day, when her son came home, he had a young woman following behind him. Mu Shuhui’s inner gossip-loving mom immediately went into overdrive.
She greeted the girl with a warm smile, invited her to sit down, prepared tea and snacks, and even told the household helper to get dinner ready.
Ever since Mu Shuhui started her company, the whole family had moved to a wealthy neighborhood and into a spacious detached villa. With such a large house, keeping everything clean was a lot of work, so she hired a housekeeper to take care of the household.
Mu Rufeng had grown into an exceptionally handsome young man. Standing 1.8 meters tall, he had a lean, straight build. Dressed in a white shirt and black pants, he had a cool, effortlessly stylish air about him.
He was at that in-between stage of looking neither quite like a boy nor fully like a man, and there was a natural elegance about him.
The young woman standing across from him was tall and slender, with a stylish short haircut and striking, well-defined features. She wore a simple white dress and greeted Mu Shuhui enthusiastically.
She was also carrying several expensive gift boxes. After setting them down one by one, she smiled and gave Mu Shuhui a polite bow.
“Auntie, my name is Mu Yao. I’ve heard so much about you from Rufeng. It’s my first time meeting you, and you look so young! You’re such an inspiration to all of us women. I hope I can learn from you in the future too…”
Mu Shuhui froze the moment she heard the girl’s name. She barely heard the rest of what she was saying.
What was going on?!
Mu Yao?
Wasn’t she the female lead?
Could it be someone with the exact same name?
Mu Shuhui smiled and invited her to sit down. After chatting casually for a while, she finally worked up the courage to ask, “Dear, you have such a lovely name. How many people are there in your family?”
Mu Yao smiled gracefully. “It’s just my father and me, along with a few other relatives. As for my mother, she passed away when I was very young.”
Mu Shuhui felt as if thunder were crashing inside her head. This was exactly the situation in the female lead’s family.
On the surface, she forced herself to stay calm. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bring up something painful.”
“It’s okay, Auntie. My grandparents on both sides, my father, my aunts, and the rest of my family have always loved me dearly. It’s not really something I can’t talk about.”
Mu Yao was incredibly considerate. After saying that, she even picked up the teapot and poured Mu Shuhui some tea. Looking a little shy, she said, “I was the one who pursued Rufeng first. He originally didn’t plan to bring me here, but I really wanted to meet you, so I followed him home without asking. I hope I’m not imposing, Auntie.”
Seeing the faint flush on her son’s cheeks, Mu Shuhui could only sigh and smile. “How could you be imposing? Auntie couldn’t be happier to have you here. Rufeng has grown up without ever bringing a girl home before. I’m really happy.”
Mu Yao visibly relaxed at that. She gave her boyfriend a quick wink, as if to say, See? Your mother is actually really easygoing. What were you so nervous about?
Mu Rufeng handed her a peeled orange and cleared his throat. Then he told his mother, “Mom, Mu Yao and I started dating last month.”
“Well, that’s wonderful. You’re both young, and dating at your age is perfectly normal. Mom fully supports you.”
With that, Mu Shuhui called the housekeeper over and asked her to bring two red envelopes from the jewelry box in her room.
She had happened to prepare a few red envelopes earlier and kept them there for emergencies. What perfect timing.
After giving the housekeeper her instructions, Mu Shuhui casually slipped the jade bracelet off her own wrist. She smiled, took the girl’s hand, and put it on her wrist.
Her son had always been stubborn, so the fact that he had finally fallen for a girl and brought her home meant he was serious about her.
Since this was their first meeting, Mu Shuhui wanted to make sure she treated her with the proper sincerity.
Mu Yao had been born into a wealthy family and had seen all kinds of exquisite jewelry, but the moment the jade bracelet touched her wrist, she could tell from its feel alone that it was something special.
It was somewhat similar to the one her grandmother owned, the kind of piece that money couldn’t easily buy.
