Heavenly Eyes 3: A Song of Hope

CHAPTER 2

06.

Grandma Yueying floated behind me, chattering away.

“Little girl, you want to know? You can ask me! As long as you buy me the same, latest model Kiwi phone, I'll tell you!”

That phone, although made of paper, was a premium version! Each one costs dozens!

I've already bought one; where would I have the money to buy a second?

I immediately refused her. “No money, let's talk next month!”

Grandma Yueying grunted and floated back to her spirit tablet.

Now, in my closet, besides Li Zhuangzhuang's spirit tablet, there's also Grandma Yueying's.

Daily offerings x 2.

Merit +1 +1 +1 +1…

I thought, among us, the young master has the sharpest mind.

Should I ask him?

So I gave him a call.

Unexpectedly, after hearing my description, the guy stammered for a long time before saying, “Shen Tongtong, I think it's better if you don't know. Also, your parents aren't home, stay away from the neighbors next door.”

I find it strange. It seems like everyone else knows what's going on, but I don't, and they won't tell me?

“Tell me, what's going on?”

I couldn't help but look at Li Zhuangzhuang's spirit tablet and took a Suck-Suck jelly from his small offering table to eat.

That night, after falling asleep, I dreamt that Li Zhuangzhuang called me a sixth child (implying someone sneaky or untrustworthy).

“All you do is eat! Liang Zhen and her stepfather have an unusual relationship, can't you see?”

Me: “What's unusual? Don't they get along well?”

Li Zhuangzhuang looked at me as if he were exasperated, warning me: “Anyway, mind your own business.”

“Hmph! Fine! Don't tell me!”

I was very unconvinced and woke up immediately.

Originally, I wasn't that gossipy.

But everyone's attitude piqued my curiosity.

I am, after all, someone with the Heavenly Eye, although I don't usually use it actively because it consumes a lot of energy.

But occasionally taking a peek should be fine.

I closed my eyes, concentrated my mental energy, and my vision seemed to penetrate the wall, entering the neighbor's house.

Vaguely, I seemed to see two people on the bed, doing something indescribable.

After seeing their faces clearly, I was instantly shocked back to reality.

It was Liang Zhen and her stepfather!!!

I instantly understood why everyone seemed to know but wouldn't explain it to me.

This situation, even in a TV drama, would be incredibly shocking!

I quickly got up and offered more offerings to Li Zhuangzhuang.

“Zhuangzhuang gege (big brother) was right, I won't peek again next time!”

07.

The next day, I got up especially early to go to school and burned the latest model of paper-made Kiwi fruit phone and joss paper money to the girl in white.

“Senior sister, try not to jump off buildings so much, it's so scary!

I'm burning you a phone, and some joss paper too. I'm very professional at burning joss paper!

Look, I'm burning you gold and silver ingots, large yellow paper... these are hard currency down there.

Last time, a grandfather's family came to my grandmother to ask about flowers, and the grandfather said that that kind of paper money and ordinary yellow paper are not useful at all, and the underworld doesn't recognize them…”

At this time, senior sister probably hasn't started work yet.

I squatted alone downstairs, burning paper and muttering to myself.

It was still early before school started, there weren't many people in school, and I didn't have any worries.

Just as I was burning, a voice suddenly appeared behind me.

“Little girl, what are you doing! All this smoke and fire!”

I turned my head and saw the security guard uncle standing behind me, his expression terrified.

And in my hands were the joss paper and gold and silver ingots, with an iron basin in front of me.

The scene was as awkward as it could possibly be.

“Uh... Uncle, let me explain.”

Unexpectedly, the uncle didn't give me a chance to explain, instead running faster than me.

“You don't need to explain! I understand! Just finish burning it quickly, clean up, it won't be good if other teachers and students see it later!”

Then he ran away quickly.

I was stunned for a moment, then became a little excited.

“Uncle, you can see it too?”

Unexpectedly, the uncle ran even faster after hearing my words.

I was still wondering about it when the figure of the girl in white suddenly appeared in front of me.

08.

I was just figuring out if the security guard uncle was one of us, when the sudden appearance of the senior sister startled me.

“Senior sister! How come you walk without a sound?”

Senior sister gave me a cool glance.

“Would it make sense for me to walk with sound?”

After glancing at the things I burned for her, senior sister's expression softened a bit.

“You're quite trustworthy, how do I use this phone…”

“I'll teach you!”

I excitedly took the new phone from her hand, only to find that I didn't understand the functions.

I chuckled awkwardly, “Hehehe... your place is developing faster than ours. I don't know how to use this latest model. Why don't you ask a colleague?”

The girl in white rolled her eyes.

“I knew I couldn't rely on you!”

Then, with a ‘whoosh,’ she disappeared again.

I thought to myself, female ghosts are so cool.

I quickly cleaned up and returned to the classroom before anyone else saw.

Just as I was about to do some early morning reading, a friend request popped up on my phone.

I clicked on it and saw the note was Tang Yun'en.

It's a pretty nice name.

After verification, I asked, “Who are you?”

The senior sister sent a selfie with long black straight hair and a pale face.

I instantly closed my eyes in fright.

“Oh my god! Senior sister, you… you're too polite.”

Senior sister only sent a proud emoji.

“Humph!”

Wow, she's already using emojis so quickly.

Looking at senior sister's note, I wanted to say, “Can you please not jump off the building tonight?”

Suddenly, a sense of familiarity flooded my mind.

Where had I heard the name Tang Yun'en before?

Just as I was about to ask, more and more classmates arrived, so I temporarily put my question aside.

09.

An Wenwen, our class monitor, sits just across the aisle from me.

She's a very nice person, always helping the teacher with things, and she knows a lot.

I couldn't help but write a little note and pass it to An Wenwen.

“Have you ever heard of the name Tang Yun'en?”

Everyone is diligently reading aloud right now, so my note-passing action is particularly noticeable.

An Wenwen first looked around cautiously, then nervously opened the note.

Seeing the contents, she frowned.

Then she wrote back to me.

“Tang Yun'en? From our grade? Never heard of her! But it sounds familiar!”

I'm a little excited.

“Right? Right? I also think it sounds familiar, but I can't remember where I heard it.”

Just as we were getting into the conversation, a hand reached out from behind, and then we were called to the office by Mr. Ma, our homeroom teacher.

Mr. Ma is our homeroom teacher and Chinese teacher, a middle-aged man known for his silence and seriousness.

“An Wenwen, as class monitor, you should set a good example. How could you do such a thing?”

I quickly explained, “Teacher, I'm sorry. I had something I wanted to ask the monitor about and didn't want to disturb others, so I wrote a note.”

“If you're going to scold someone, scold me…”

The homeroom teacher glared at me unhappily. “Shen Tong, don't think you're off the hook. I'll call on you for recitation later, and if you can't recite it, you'll be punished by copying the textbook one hundred times!”

Saying this, Mr. Ma opened the note in his hand, his face suddenly changing drastically, and he slumped into his chair.

10.

Mr. Ma, realizing his lapse in composure, adjusted his emotions and said to An Wenwen, “Go back to the classroom. Tell the classmates to study independently for the first class; I have something to discuss with Shen Tong.”

An Wenwen thought she wouldn't escape punishment.

With a mournful face, she left, relieved at the news.

Before leaving, she gave me a ‘good luck’ expression.

After An Wenwen left, Mr. Ma closed the office door and seriously asked me,

“Shen Tong, where... where did you hear the name Tang Yun'en?”

Seeing Mr. Ma's agitated state, I knew things were probably serious.

But I couldn't tell him that the senior sister herself told me, could I?

After thinking for a moment, I said, “I heard it by chance. Is something wrong, Mr. Ma?”

Unexpectedly, Mr. Ma became even more agitated.

“Impossible!!!”

“The name Tang Yun'en is taboo at No. 1 High. No one would mention it. Tell the truth to your teacher!”

Seeing Mr. Ma getting more and more agitated, I could only tell the truth.

I took out my phone and handed it to Mr. Ma.

“Okay, actually, someone added me today, and the note was Tang Yun'en…”

Then, I pulled up the senior sister's WeChat and our chat history.

Mr. Ma first glanced at the senior sister's profile picture, then looked at the emojis she sent, and his emotions immediately spiraled out of control.

“This... this is impossible? It's a prank! It must be a prank!”

I wanted to tell the teacher that it really wasn't a prank.

Unexpectedly, Mr. Ma actually sent a message to the senior sister.

“Who are you?”

“Why are you impersonating Tang Yun'en?”

“What is your purpose?”

The senior sister in white sent a question mark back.

“?”

I couldn't help covering my face.

Mr. Ma, you're the first person I've ever seen to talk to a ghost like that.

Unexpectedly, the next second, half of the senior sister's body emerged from the phone.

“Who says I'm impersonating?”

11.

The senior sister's real name is Tang Yun'en; she wasn't impersonating anyone.

Mr. Ma held the phone, staring wide-eyed and speechless at the senior sister who had half her body protruding from the screen. His eyes widened in terror.

“Yun... Yun'en? It's really you! Don't... don't kill me!”

Mr. Ma screamed, then rolled his eyes and fainted.

The senior sister looked at the fainted Mr. Ma, completely bewildered, and scratched the back of her head.

“Who is he? Why is he so scared?”

Standing beside her, I awkwardly twitched the corner of my mouth.

“Can you blame him for fainting after seeing you?”

However, Mr. Ma's reaction was indeed a bit abnormal, so I couldn't help but ask the senior sister.

“Senior sister, you really don't know our Mr. Ma? He seems to know you.”

The senior sister leaned further out, her entire face now close to Mr. Ma's, carefully observing the fainted teacher.

Seeing the senior sister propping her chin in thought for a long time, I thought she had discovered something and couldn't help but ask,

“What do you think?”

Unexpectedly, the senior sister took a deep breath and said, “...I don't know him.”

Then, impatiently, she said, “This guy, so old and ugly, why would I know him?”

After saying that, she immediately retracted back into the phone.

Now that the senior sister has retreated, I'm the one in trouble.

What if something happens to Mr. Ma, and his family blames me?

Thinking of this, I quickly ran out to call for help from other teachers and students.

“Help! Someone, quickly! Mr. Ma has fainted!”

Finally, the PE teacher called two strong students to help carry Mr. Ma to the school nurse for a check-up. After resting for a while, Mr. Ma finally woke up.

The first thing Mr. Ma did after waking up was to grab my hand.

“Shen Tong! Is she gone?”
