Dating Show Side Character, Getting Rich by Roasting People
CHAPTER 15: Busted! Can’t Hide Those Smug Know-It-All Vibes!
At first, Lu Shixuan didn’t take Chu Ling seriously at all.
Competing with him? There was no way she could win.
Not only was he naturally skilled at skiing, he had been on countless slopes since he was a kid. Just relying on a man’s speed and strength alone, Chu Ling stood no chance.
So at the start, he rested his arms on his knees, watching Chu Ling’s figure, deliberately pausing a second—hoping the live audience would praise him for being a gentleman.
But the moment she actually took off, he realized something was wrong.
Chu Ling was faster than he expected.
He had assumed this delicate, clumsy actress only knew the basics from private lessons and couldn’t really ski. He never expected that the moment she started, she shot forward like a light, agile bird.
Her skiing posture looked incredibly professional.
Lu Shixuan cursed under his breath, a bead of sweat forming at the back of his neck.
He pushed forward.
Chu Ling’s eyes were on the path ahead, calm and composed, as if nothing else existed around her.
It had been a long time since she last skied. At first, she worried she might be rusty, but once she stepped onto the skis, the familiar feeling came rushing back.
Her hard work, the kind that had never been recognized or rewarded before, was suddenly noticed in a very special way.
【I didn’t expect Chu Ling to actually pull this off! She’s pretty fast.】
【Her posture on that S-shaped path is beautiful; you can’t pull that off without professional training. I guess I underestimated her.】
【Wait, what about Lu Shixuan?】
Lu Shixuan was grumbling behind her.
Unexpectedly, the indoor ski slope felt completely different from the outdoors, both in snow texture and wind speed, and it was like his skis didn’t listen to him at all.
He had started late, and seeing Chu Ling move so fast made him regret giving her those extra seconds at the start. In the second half, he pushed himself harder, straining to reach the finish line. But when he saw Chu Ling closing in, he panicked, overexerted himself, and tripped—face-planting straight into the snow.
“……”
When Lu Shixuan struggled out of the snow, he saw Chu Ling sliding smoothly right up to him.
“How was it?”
She leaned slightly toward him, feigning pity, “Do you need me to teach you?”
Lu Shixuan: “……”
This was beyond embarrassing.
Even the system was a little surprised that Chu Ling had actually won, “Did you somehow predict he would fall?”
“No way.”
Chu Ling smiled, “I just knew that indoor and outdoor slopes are different. Someone like him, used to perfect outdoor snow, would have trouble adjusting suddenly to this kind of slope.”
And she had practiced on slopes exactly like this, so she felt perfectly at ease, as if she were back home.
“This track isn’t long, there are several turns, and with this kind of snow, my build gives me an advantage.”
Chu Ling paused, then added, “Besides, losing just means getting teased a bit. So what?”
Losing is normal.
Winning is profit.
For something low risk and high reward like this, of course she was going to take the gamble.
And judging from Lu Shixuan’s attitude earlier, she knew he would be overconfident. Now that he lost, his negative emotions were sure to pour out even more.
“……You do ski pretty well. Not worse than me.”
Lu Shixuan, desperate to save face, took a steady breath and said stubbornly, “I gave you a few seconds at the start. If it weren't for that little mistake at the end, I probably would have caught up.”
Chu Ling: “...”
You’ve got as many excuses as you do moves on the slopes.
“Still, even if you’re fast, I noticed a few of your moves aren’t quite standard.”
Lu Shixuan said, “I’m guessing your coach only taught you how to ski forward, without really correcting your posture, right?”
【…… 😑😐】
【I can’t. His comment is peak classic, who even gets this?】
【Men are like this. Even though I skied slower than you and wiped out hard, I still know more about skiing than you!】
【He was doing fine in the first episodes, but now the know-it-all dad vibes are showing!】
【I can’t take it anymore. Chu Ling, roast him before I beg you!!】
Chu Ling let out a soft laugh, her tone lightly mocking, “I don’t think I need someone who skis slower than me to give me pointers, right?”
“That’s where you’re wrong. Speed alone doesn’t fully represent skiing ability.”
Saying that, Lu Shixuan got up, skied a few meters, and did a simple jump-turn. “See? This is something your coaches couldn’t teach you.”
The move looked flashy but wasn’t actually that difficult.
It was one of his classic moves he always showed off to flirt. Usually, little girls who didn’t know much about skiing would see it and immediately get stars in their eyes.
But Chu Ling just went “Oh?” and then replicated it right in front of him. “Like this?”
Lu Shixuan: “???”
【Chu Ling, you can do that too!!】
【OMG, I think Chu Ling did it even more gracefully than Lu Shixuan.】
【Seriously… no wonder she’s a celebrity. Her posture is perfect.】
Of course, Chu Ling had practiced a few flashy moves back when she was preparing for that role. She didn’t get to use them at the time, but it wasn’t a waste — now she was finally putting them to good use.
“I know a few other moves too. If you want to learn, I can teach you,” Chu Ling said calmly.
Lu Shixuan: “……”
Lu Shixuan felt like he had just been slapped in the face.
For the rest of the date on the slopes, they skied separately without saying a word.
After it ended, Lu Shixuan originally planned to leave immediately, but the filming assistant reminded him that their time at the ski resort was already short. Ending early would reduce broadcast value, so he reluctantly invited Chu Ling to lunch.
The restaurant had been booked in advance.
Lu Shixuan led Chu Ling to a seat, called over a waiter, and started ordering while talking: “The foie gras appetizer here is excellent. Let’s start with one. For the main course, I’ll take the Beef Wellington and the chef’s recent signature dish, Brittany Blue Lobster…”
He finished ordering without asking Chu Ling, then looked at her. “I don’t know your tastes, so just tell me what you want.”
Chu Ling: “?”
What kind of trash bag is this, able to hold so much? Even if it can hold a lot, normal people would at least get a complete order, right? Shouldn’t he have ordered her share too?
It seemed like Lu Shixuan hated her so much that even his gentlemanly manners went out the window. He just wanted her to embarrass herself at this restaurant.
Chu Ling turned to the waiter and asked, “You understand Chinese, right?”
The waiter smiled. “Of course, ma’am. What would you like?”
Chu Ling replied calmly, “I’d like to see a menu first.”
【Hahaha, right? How are we supposed to order if we don’t even see the menu???】
【Lu Shixuan ordered his food without even thinking about Chu Ling? It’s her first time here!】
【If you didn’t know this was a dating show, you’d forget it real fast.】
【Wait, this is a dating show? I thought it was some kind of revenge meeting instead.】
The waiter paused for a moment, then happily said, “Sure.”
Within two minutes, a menu was brought over. Chu Ling glanced at it and saw it was entirely in English.
“……”
Looks like this place really doesn’t want business.
Chu Ling wondered how Lu Shixuan had managed to pick a restaurant as pretentious as him. She even suspected he had secretly tipped off the waiter so they’d hand her an all-English menu just to make things difficult.
Watching her open the menu, Lu Shixuan fell silent. Finally, he felt a small surge of satisfaction and, a bit smugly, asked, “Need some help?”
“No.”
Chu Ling flipped through the pages, pointed at the pictures, and picked the priciest items. “I’ll have this, this, and this. Thank you.”
The waiter: “……Alright.”
【The simplest way to order, yet the ultimate enjoyment.】
【Chu Ling can’t even read English, right? Did she even go to school?】
【Pretty reasonable. Even if I didn’t like Chu Ling, I’d do the same. Who wants to read an all-English menu? This is China!】
【Honestly, I’m more curious about what Lu Shixuan is thinking. He just ordered his own food without caring about the person in front of him. I’ve never seen such low EQ.】
【Love or no love is obvious. If he were with Ye Weiyang, he wouldn’t act like this…】
【Love or no love? No, this is just basic manners versus no manners.】
【Exactly. Those insulting Chu Ling can take their words back. Rudeness is rudeness.】
Chu Ling suddenly asked, “You seem familiar with this place. Do you come here often?”
For some reason, Lu Shixuan felt a twinge of guilt for a moment, then dodged the question. “…Not really. It’s just that this restaurant’s food is pretty good.”
Chu Ling made a sound of realization and said, “But I just checked. This is a restaurant mainly for couples on dates.”
Many items on the menu were for two people, and even the plating in the pictures looked carefully designed.
No wonder she had felt something odd about the way the waiters were looking at them when they walked in. Turns out they were being treated like a real couple.
But considering what Lu Shixuan said about his last relationship being a campus romance, Chu Ling glanced around and gave a subtly amused smile. “I feel like you’ve had a lot of ¹peach blossoms, Louis.”

Glossary:
¹Peach blossoms (桃花 / táohuā)
In Chinese slang, “peach blossom” doesn’t just refer to the literal flower — it’s a metaphor for romance or romantic encounters.
有桃花 (“to have peach blossoms”) means someone attracts a lot of romantic interest or potential partners.
It can be neutral, playful, or teasing depending on tone.
If said with a slightly sarcastic or wary tone, it can also imply messy or troublesome relationships (like “peach blossom luck” that brings drama).
In Chu Ling’s line, she’s teasing Lu Shixuan for seeming like he’s had many admirers or love interests.

DeleteFor a supposed CEO, his manipulation and gaslighting skills seem rather lacking LOL
ReplyDeleteMaybe Chu Ling’s presence short-circuited his CEO brain 🤭
DeleteLol, I can't even, he reminded me of this obnoxious guy I used to know.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I know that feeling 😂 Some people really leave a lasting ‘impression,’ huh?
