Time-Travel: The Tragic Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Makes a Comeback

CHAPTER 7: The 1970s Naive Supporting Girl (7)

Seeing the determination in his sister’s eyes, Song Yuanchao found himself trusting her without even realizing it. With Uncle Li around, his sister probably wouldn’t be bullied by the Song family anymore.

He nodded obediently. “Mm. Xiao Chao will listen to Sister.”

While the two were talking, Li Yanlong returned after finishing the hospital admission procedures.

The moment Song Yuanchao saw Uncle Li, his eyes lit up, and he called out happily, “Uncle Li!”

Seeing the brightness in the little boy’s eyes, the sternness on Li Yanlong’s face softened a little.

  He strode over.

Bending down, Li Yanlong gently rubbed the boy’s head, his voice tinged with guilt and heartache. “Yuanchao, this is Uncle Li’s fault. I didn’t come see you for too long, and that's why you were bullied.”

He had been swamped with work lately, busy for more than half a month. He would occasionally call the Song household, never expecting them to dare mistreat the children right under his nose.

No matter how he looked at it, it was his negligence. The siblings’ father, Song Jianye, had once saved his life. They had known each other since they were seventeen or eighteen, all the way through marriage and having children. He had thought it would always stay that way, never imagining the couple would pass away so early.

Song Yuanchao shook his head, placing his small hand over Uncle Li’s. His young voice was soft yet firm. “Uncle Li, it’s not your fault. It’s Uncle and Grandpa who are bad. Uncle Li is very, very good to me and my sister.”

Hearing how sensible the child was only made Li Yanlong feel worse. He gently touched the boy’s thin cheek.

“Be good, Yuanchao. Eat well, cooperate with the doctors, and focus on getting your body better. Uncle Li will make those bad people pay.”

Song Yuanchao’s eyes sparkled as he said happily, “Thank you, Uncle Li.”

In his heart, Uncle Li was the most powerful person there was. The Song family would bow and flatter the moment they saw him. As long as Uncle Li was around, he and his sister would not be bullied.

Li Yanlong stayed to chat with the siblings for a while before leaving.

Song Yuanchao had not fully recovered yet. After the nurse set up his IV, he fell asleep not long after.

Song Susu did not rush to take action. Instead, she stayed right where she was, quietly waiting for the right moment.

With Uncle Li stepping in, the Song family was bound to fall into chaos.

Judging by that family’s nature, they would definitely come to the hospital to beg her for mercy when the time came.

When that happened, whatever they had swallowed would all be forced back out, bit by bit.

  ……

Sure enough, that afternoon, Mother Song arrived with her second son and his wife.

The second uncle of the Song family was named Song Jianjun. His wife was Liu Fang, the parents of Song Lili.

The moment Mother Song stepped into the ward, she did not offer a single word of concern. Instead, she launched straight into a barrage of curses.

“Song Susu, you little bastard, you’ve really grown some nerve, daring to hit your own grandpa and uncle. When did you learn such filthy, lowlife tricks? Did you pick up bad habits from mixing with unsavory people out in the countryside? You heartless thing, don’t drag our Song family’s reputation through the mud. And you still had the nerve to call someone to arrest your uncle. Are you satisfied only after tearing this family apart?”

Standing behind her, Song Jianjun looked like a refined man. He was neatly dressed, wearing glasses, with a briefcase in hand.

He frowned and tugged at his mother’s sleeve, lowering his voice in reminder. “Mom, Susu is still just a child. If you have something to say, say it properly. Jiabao is still waiting over there. Don’t lose your temper and scare her.”

Mother Song choked at her second son’s words. Regaining her senses, she forcibly suppressed her anger, her tone softening a little. “Susu, your youngest uncle didn’t mean to hit Yuanchao. I already asked the doctor. There’s no danger to his life. Hurry and call your Uncle Li and say you won’t pursue this matter anymore.”

After his mother finished speaking, Song Jianjun also turned to his niece with a gentle expression, helping to smooth things over. “Susu, this was your uncle’s fault. Once we go home, we can talk things through as a family. Your uncle is about to get married. If he’s taken away by the police at a time like this, not only will he lose his job, your aunt will cause a huge scene too. We’re all family. There’s no need to make things this ugly.”

Liu Fang wanted to join in and persuade her as well, but the image of Song Susu beating someone flashed through her mind. In the end, she swallowed her words back down.

“You’re bad people! Get out, all of you. If you don’t leave, I’ll have Uncle Li kick you out!”

Song Yuanchao was woken by his grandmother’s shouting. When he saw them barging in, he clutched his sister’s hand tightly and yelled at them.

“Yuanchao, leave them to your sister. Go back to sleep for a bit,” Song Susu said gently.

After that, she lifted her eyes and coldly stared at the three people by the door.

  “Get out. Now.”

Mother Song never expected to be spoken to like that. Her face instantly flushed red with rage. “You, you ill-mannered little thing…”

  Bang!

Before she could finish, a chamber pot was flung straight at her, splashing all over her.

Mother Song had not even processed what happened when Liu Fang, who had been splattered as well, screamed first.

“Shut up! If you make a scene and draw more people over here, be careful or I’ll smear it straight into your mouth.”

The moment Song Susu finished speaking, Liu Fang clamped a hand over her mouth. Her stomach churned with nausea, and she rushed out of the room.

Song Jianjun’s face turned dark. No wonder his wife had said this niece seemed like a completely different person and warned him not to act rashly.

He had come to settle things. This concerned his future, after all. Now was not the time to lose his temper. Gritting his teeth, he suppressed his anger and pulled his mother toward the door.

“Mom, don’t stoop to arguing with a junior. Don’t forget why we’re here.”

Mother Song had never suffered such humiliation. The thought that she had just been doused with urine made her shake with fury.

She wanted nothing more than to slap that wretched girl, but hearing her son’s low reminder, she clenched her teeth and forced herself to endure it. With her son supporting her, she was dragged out.

The chamber pot had never actually been used. The liquid inside was just the water Song Susu had used to rinse cups.

Honestly, Song Susu almost wished it really had been urine. Too bad her brother had not gotten the chance to use it yet.

Song Yuanchao stared at the scene in shock, his mouth hanging open, his eyes sparkling as he looked at his sister.

  “Sis… you’re amazing.”

His sister had really changed. She was no longer timid and weak like before. That moment just now felt like watching a fearless warrior.

Song Susu smiled and rubbed his head, her voice soft. “Mm. They bullied you, so your sister won’t be a coward anymore.”

Hearing her sister’s words, Song Yuanchao’s eyes reddened. So it turned out that his sister had changed so much because of him.

Seeing the boy about to cry again, Song Susu quickly said, “What I did to them is something worth being happy about. No crying, okay? You stay here and rest properly. Your sister is going to take back what belongs to us.”

“Mhm.” Song Yuanchao’s clear black eyes sparkled, the gloom and sharpness from before finally fading away.

After soothing her brother, Song Susu stepped out of the hospital room.

The moment she appeared, Song Jianjun let out a quiet sigh of relief and hurriedly shot his mother a look.

Mother Song clenched her teeth, just about to speak.

Then Song Susu said calmly, “Before we talk, you’d better clean up the urine stains inside the room. Otherwise, there’s no point in saying anything.”

“Song Susu! Don’t push your luck. Do you really think having Li Yanlong backing you means you can act however you want?” Mother Song cursed angrily.

Song Susu crossed her arms and looked at her with open disdain. “Then why are you crowding over here like this? If you’ve got the guts, get lost. Today I’m singling you out. If you don’t clean up that urine, don’t bother saying a single word to me.”

“You!” Mother Song staggered back a step, clutching her chest, nearly unable to catch her breath.

Song Jianjun supported his mother, staring at the arrogant niece in front of him as if he no longer recognized her. How could that timid, reserved little girl from before turn into someone like this?

He almost opened his mouth to lecture her, but Liu Fang reacted quickly and tugged him back, whispering, “Jianjun, don’t provoke her. Just get to the point.”

She had seen this damned girl beat up Song Jiabao before. A grown man had been clutching his stomach, unable to get up for ages, and even when he did, he could barely walk without shaking. Just thinking about it made it clear how ruthless this girl really was.
