Time-Travel: The Tragic Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Makes a Comeback

CHAPTER 69: The First Wife of a 1980s Big Shot Who Died Young (2)

Both twins flung their schoolbags onto the table and gave their half-sister an irritated, dismissive look.

One of the boys curled his lip in disgust and complained, “Dad, don’t bother cooking. She’s already grown up, how does she still have the nerve to let an elder cook for her? She’s living in our house and can’t even bother to cook on her own.”

Without a word, Huo Meilan shoved the two chubby troublemakers aside and fixed her gaze on Wu Dajun.

“Liu Cuijuan said you took my money?”

Wu Dajun froze for a second, then his expression changed as he snapped back, clearly displeased. “No. Huo Meilan, what do you even mean by that?”

The twins, shoved aside and already unhappy, immediately flared up. They crowded around her again, glaring at her fiercely.

“Huo Meilan, are you asking for a beating?”

  Bang!

Huo Meilan didn’t even hesitate. She kicked one each, sending both of them flying in sync straight into the doorway with a loud crash.

  “Ahhh!”

The twins were completely stunned on impact. The pain hit right after, and both of them instantly started crying.

“It hurts! Huo Meilan, you psycho!”

Wu Dajun’s reprimanding words got stuck in his throat. His hands trembled as he pointed at her, staring in disbelief.

“You… what are you trying to do?!”

Huo Meilan didn’t hesitate. She slapped him right on the head and looked at him coldly.

“Are you deaf or just stupid? Give me my money back, or I’ll throw you out the window.”

That slap left Wu Dajun’s mind buzzing. Instinctively, he reached into his pocket with shaking hands.

He pulled out a handful of loose change and gritted his teeth as he handed it over. “This is all of it. It’s everything I’ve got.”

Huo Meilan glanced at the few crumpled bills and coins, then grabbed his hair and dragged him straight toward the window, scoffing as she went.

“Looks like you gave it to Wu Meifang, huh? What a great father you are.”

“You, you what are you doing? Don’t-”

Before he could finish, Huo Meilan shoved his entire face against the window frame, pressing so hard his features distorted.

“Don’t! I’ll go withdraw it from the bank for you, just don’t do anything crazy!”

  ……

An hour later, Huo Meilan had gotten back the money that had originally been taken from her, along with the Wu family’s so-called “compensation.”

It wasn’t exactly voluntary, but they had all signed and pressed their fingerprints on it. There was a total of 1,100 yuan in the passbook. After returning the 300, the remaining 800 was treated as compensation.

The Wu family thought this troublemaker was finally leaving for good.

But then Huo Meilan pulled out a stick from who knew where and started beating them without hesitation.

The house was instantly filled with screams and howls like pigs being slaughtered. In the end, it was the neighbors who couldn’t take it anymore and called the police after hearing the commotion.

By the time the police arrived, Huo Meilan had already left with her documents in hand.

The Wu family was sent to the hospital. All four of them had no internal injuries, but their arms and legs were broken.

Before leaving, Huo Meilan had warned them clearly. She had backing in the capital, and if they were blind enough to report her to the police, they would only end up hurting themselves.

The Wu family suffered in silence. Afraid of the powerful backing behind her and even more afraid of her ruthless methods, they swallowed their anger and said nothing. In the end, they could only claim it was a family dispute and that they had fought among themselves.

  ……

Meanwhile, before getting on the train, Huo Meilan first called Uncle Qin and tearfully told him everything that had recently happened.

The old commander of the Qin family nearly blew his top. How shameless could people get, trying to fool others like they were idiots?

After comforting her a few words, he told his subordinates to handle the matter and also made a call to his younger son’s unit.

But his son was out on a mission and not available, so he left a message telling him to call back once he returned.

Huo Meilan rode the train for a full day and night before finally arriving at Qin Huaijing’s military unit.

Qin Huaijing was her so-called husband in name only. In the photo, he looked sharp and commanding, clearly outstanding in every way.

She and Wu Meifang didn’t even look that alike. Either someone had bad eyesight, or there was some serious misunderstanding going on.

Huo Meilan came as his wife, and when the guard at the gate heard that she was Battalion Commander Qin’s spouse, he was a bit stunned. Didn’t another one just show up a couple days ago?

After hesitating for a moment, he still made a call to the family housing area to report it.

At the same time, Wu Meifang was playing with her braided hair, shyly looking at the man in front of her as she softly called out, “Brother Qin.”

Qin Huaijing was sitting loosely in a chair, sizing up the female comrade across from him.

  “So you’re Huo Meilan?”

Wu Meifang did resemble Huo Meilan a bit in her facial features, but her build was slightly sturdier. She replied somewhat bashfully.

“Mm, Brother Qin, you can just call me Xiaomei. I was supposed to come earlier, but I wanted to stay a little longer with my mother, so I got delayed.”

After saying that, Wu Meifang even stole a glance at him. Seeing how handsome he looked, her heartbeat only sped up more.

“Brother Qin, I’ve been waiting here for you for several days. You finally came back. A lot of people in the family housing area were curious and kept asking me questions. I, I’ll just stay here from now on and take care of you.”

She hesitated at the end, clearly wanting to bring up the topic of consummating the marriage, but in the end, she didn’t have the nerve to say it out loud.

Anyway, now that he was back, that step would happen sooner or later.

Qin Huaijing felt his temples start to throb as he looked at her overly delicate, almost artificial demeanor and listened to her words.

So this was the daughter-in-law the old man had described as stunning, gentle, generous, and perfect in every way?

Had the old man’s eyesight finally failed with age?

He had plenty of girls chasing after him. Any one of them would outclass her.

He had already been unhappy that the old man had arranged a marriage without even telling him and went behind his back to register it. At first, hearing how highly the old man praised her, he had even been a little curious.

Now though, he felt like his guts were twisted into regret.

  “You—”

Qin Huaijing had just started to speak when a young soldier suddenly rushed in from outside.

“Report, Battalion Commander! Someone is looking for you outside. They said, they said it’s your wife.”

The room went quiet for a couple of seconds.

  Qin Huaijing froze. Another wife?

Just how many had the old man arranged for him?

He asked, “What does she look like?”

The young soldier’s face turned a little red as he scratched his head. “She’s really pretty, like a fairy.”

Qin Huaijing raised a brow. Oh? Another fairy-like one?

But Wu Meifang’s expression suddenly changed. She quickly blurted out, “Brother Qin, I know who it is outside. She’s a cousin from my hometown. She insisted on following me when I came here. She’s an orphan and probably just trying to steal my marriage. She’s a bit crazy, you should just send her away so she doesn’t cause trouble.”

Qin Huaijing was young, but steady in temperament. Growing up around the compound, he was already sharp and experienced in dealing with people.

One glance was enough for him to see Wu Meifang’s panic and fluster.

He curled his lips slightly, lazily standing up from the chair.

“Forget it. Who knows who’s the fake one here. Whoever dares to lie to me, I’ll peel their skin off.”

After saying that, he didn’t even spare her another look and walked out with the soldier.

Wu Meifang’s legs went weak and she collapsed straight onto the floor.

How could Huo Meilan be here?

At the gate, Huo Meilan was already getting impatient waiting.

It was early autumn, and the temperature here in the military compound was even colder than usual.

She hadn’t brought any extra clothes with her. The original owner’s clothes had all been “borrowed” by Wu Meifang and never returned. What she was wearing now was the only outfit left, something Uncle Qin had prepared for her when he left.

It was a blue top with a trendy stand collar and front buttons, paired with a matching long skirt. On her feet were square-toe leather shoes.

Feeling the chill, Huo Meilan had let her hair down instead of tying it up.
