Time-Travel: The Tragic Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Makes a Comeback

CHAPTER 65: The 1960s Marriage Swap: Marrying a Cook (19)

Ye Su let out a soft scoff and casually flung Ye Liu’s hand away. “Then go enjoy your good life. Why come here looking for attention?”

Ye Liu staggered slightly from the shove. She turned back, staring at Ye Su’s bright, delicate face. A flash of jealousy crossed her eyes. So she really was doing better after returning to the countryside.

“No matter how well you talk, I don’t believe you don’t know this. Duan Ziyu and I were once engaged.”

Ye Liu clearly just wanted to disgust her. She didn’t want Ye Su and Duan Ziyu together. She knew how good Duan Ziyu was, and she didn’t want Ye Su enjoying any of it.

Ye Su didn’t get angry at all. She just smiled lightly. “So what if you were engaged? It just means you weren’t lucky enough for it. Duan Ziyu is mine now. What’s the point of dragging up the past?”

Ye Liu clenched her fists tightly in anger. “I don’t care. I won’t agree to you two being together. Duan Ziyu can marry anyone, just not you.”

Duan Ziyu felt this was completely unreasonable. His voice turned cold as he snapped, “Enough! What does it matter to you who I marry?”

Ye Su raised a brow. “Ye Liu, you’re like someone who’s eating what’s in their bowl while eyeing what’s in the pot. What is it, did you get divorced? Now you’re back trying to steal my man?”

“Don’t talk nonsense! I never said I got divorced. Tan Jun is mine!”

Ye Liu shot her a wary look. “Don’t tell me you still have feelings for Tan Jun?”

Ye Su looked at her like she was an idiot. “Ye Liu, I used to think too highly of you. To you, Tan Jun might be something special, but in my eyes, he’s worth nothing.”

After all, she was supposedly a reborn woman, living two lives. And yet she was still this hung up over a man, so insecure and irrational. Not an ounce of sense.

Ye Liu was about to argue back when the man behind her impatiently cut in.

“Comrade Ye, don’t forget what you came here for.”

She froze for a second. Right, she suddenly remembered why she had returned. The treasure in the mountain mattered more.

She turned to Hao Wenfang, her tone softening. “Mom, I didn’t come back to cause trouble. I just want to go into the back mountain to pick some wild fruit. I ran into the village chief earlier and he wouldn’t let me in. Can you help me talk to him?”

Hao Wenfang’s expression stayed calm and cold. She glanced at the man behind Ye Liu and said flatly, “If the village chief already said no, what can I do? You two should leave.”

  Ye Liu got frustrated.

The man behind her quickly pulled her back and stepped forward with a polite smile. He took out 10 yuan from his wallet.

“Auntie, I’m from out of town. I’ve never tried the wild produce here. I just want to go up the mountain and take a look. Please help us out.”

Seeing this, Hao Wenfang grew even more alert. Something felt off. Could they be spies or something? After all, her son had once caught someone in the back mountain before.

“Ye Liu! I don’t care what your intentions are bringing someone here, but don’t cause trouble in West Village. Otherwise, I’ll report you to the authorities!”

As soon as she said that, both of their expressions changed.

The man immediately turned dark-faced and prepared to leave. Ye Liu gritted her teeth and hurried after him.

Hao Wenfang stepped forward and slammed the gate shut with a bang, clearly not planning to let them back in.

These two people were acting all suspicious. Who knew what trouble they might drag their whole family into later.

Ye Su had been out all day and felt a little tired, so she walked straight toward her room.

Duan Ziyu followed quietly behind her, carrying the things as he went in with her.

Once inside, Ye Su took off her thin outer jacket, leaving on a light sweater underneath. She had learned how to make it herself after asking her sister-in-law for guidance.

It was a light gray round-neck design, the stitches not too dense, slightly fitted, and not too long, ending around her hips. It looked simple but very stylish.

Duan Ziyu set the things down, then naturally stepped behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. He rested his chin lightly on her shoulder and said softly,

“Susu, last year, my mom wasn’t in good health. I often saw her crying alone at night without sleeping. Later she took a liking to Ye Liu and thought she was suitable, so I agreed. But I barely met Ye Liu a few times. There was never any real relationship between us.”

“You’re different from her. I didn’t settle for anyone. I like you sincerely. I’m incredibly fortunate to have met you along the way. I will love you forever.”

Ye Su didn’t feel the slightest jealousy. She leaned back against him and chuckled softly.

“I believe you didn’t have anything with Ye Liu, but ‘forever’ is a bit too far. A man’s mouth can’t always be trusted. Who knows what happens later? Unless you prove it to me with your whole life.”

Duan Ziyu smiled gently at her words, holding her even tighter. He lowered his head and pressed a light kiss to her cheek.

“Alright. After we get married, you can supervise me all the time. I’ll prove it to you with the rest of my life.”

Ye Su had just smiled in satisfaction when she heard him ask.

“Is Tan Jun better looking than me?”

Ye Su tilted her head with a smile and tugged his ear, lightly kneading it. “Jealous? I’ve never seen that side of you before. The matchmaker only mentioned him once back then.”

“Still, he definitely isn’t as good-looking as you. He probably can’t even cook as well as you. Judging from how he raised his wife into that kind of situation, he doesn’t seem like a responsible person either. Overall, you win by a landslide. Best of the best.”

Duan Ziyu’s lips curved up high. He lowered his head and blocked her teasing little mouth, pulling her closer by the waist and pressing her into his arms.

Ever since Ye Su taught him how to kiss, this man had basically figured it out on his own. His skills were getting more and more natural.

Ye Su wrapped her arms around his slim waist, tilting her head up to meet him and enjoying the kiss.

  ……

She had thought Ye Liu and the others had already left, but in the middle of the night, things almost turned into a disaster.

It turned out Ye Liu and that man waited until it was dark and sneaked up the mountain.

The two of them, total amateurs, ran into wild animals while searching. The man got bitten on the leg, and Ye Liu got scratched on the face. They were lucky to escape alive, stumbling all the way down until they ran into villagers who saved them.

The village chief brought them to the town for treatment and also reported it to the police.

After their wounds were treated, both of them were taken to the police station for questioning.

Interrogations in this era were strict, and under pressure, they eventually confessed.

They had gone into the mountain to look for hidden treasures.

Even if Ye Liu was foolish, she still didn’t dare mention that she already knew there were treasures on the mountain. She only made up a story, saying she had heard rumors from others and just wanted to try their luck.

Although the two of them were eventually cleared of being suspicious people, going up the mountain looking for treasure was still wrong. They were made to write self-criticism letters and given a lecture, and they also had to contact their families to pick them up. Their families were required to write guarantee letters as well.

When the Ye family in the city heard about it, they only felt humiliated and pushed the whole mess onto the Tan family. Mother Tan cared deeply about her reputation, and when she heard the news, she was so furious she nearly fainted. She immediately cursed Ye Liu, saying she might as well die outside.

Ever since the marriage, Ye Liu had brought nothing but trouble. She couldn’t even bear children properly, so marrying her was completely useless.

The man who came with Ye Liu had already been picked up by his family. In the end, Ye Liu had no choice but to contact the Ye family in West Village.

Hao Wenfang didn’t care and didn’t allow anyone else in the family to get involved either.

“Someone that brainless needs to learn her lesson,” she said coldly.

In the end, the police found the military phone number for Tan Jun’s unit and made a call to notify him.

The one who answered was a rookie soldier. He shouted the news out loud, and before long, the entire unit knew about it.

The higher-ups even reprimanded Tan Jun for it. A military family involved in “feudal superstition” and digging for treasure, then getting taken away by the police, was nothing short of a disgrace to the unit.

Suppressing his irritation, Tan Jun called the police back and repeatedly promised that he would properly control the situation and would never let it happen again. Only then did the police release Ye Liu.

Feeling thoroughly ashamed, Ye Liu slunk back to the city.

Meanwhile, the people of West Village treated the whole thing like a joke.

“What treasure is there on that mountain anyway? If there really was something, would it even be her turn…”
