Time-Travel: The Tragic Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Makes a Comeback
CHAPTER 97: The Eldest Sister of the 90s Quits Sacrificing Herself (9)
Before long, June arrived, bringing with it the college entrance examination.
After finishing her exams, Zhao Fuyao filled in Shanghai University as her top choice.
Since she had already bought the house, it only made sense to move in. Life, after all, was meant to be enjoyed.
There were nearly two months of vacation ahead.
Originally, Zhao Fuyao had planned to go to Shanghai to tidy up the house and buy some furniture to decorate it properly.
But her plans were suddenly disrupted by a group of people showing up.
It was the four Zhao siblings, along with a large group from their mother’s side of the family, including uncles and aunts.
No one knew how they had found the address, but they had gathered right at the entrance of the residential area, each of them shouting ugly words without restraint.
“Zhao Laidi! You cold-hearted, black-hearted thing! Your parents died such a miserable death, left behind a compensation payout, and you took it all and ran! You don’t care at all about whether your younger siblings live or die. Today I’m going to tell everyone exactly what kind of heartless person you are…”
It was midday, and there were quite a few people coming in and out of the neighborhood, with plenty stopping to watch the commotion.
Someone asked, “Who are you looking for? There’s no Zhao Laidi living in our community.”
Zhao Hanyi quickly added, “My eldest sister goes to Haishi No. 5 High School. She’s really good at studying. She transferred there from our county in her final year of high school. People from that school should definitely know her.”
“Are you talking about Zhao Fuyao? She’s the new transfer student in senior year. Her grades are really good. Short hair, looks very sharp and pretty, and she’s also our class vice monitor,” a girl said quietly.
As soon as Zhao Handi heard that, she immediately stepped forward and looked at the girl.
“Yes, that matches my eldest sister. In our hometown, her name is Zhao Laidi. She probably thought it was embarrassing to use that name here and changed it herself. Do you know where she lives?”
“That heartless girl even changed her name without a word. I bet she’s just waiting to take the money and run!”
The rest of them immediately crowded around the girl, pressing her for answers.
The young girl got startled and stammered, “She, she seems to live in Building 4. I’m not sure which floor though.”
The group quickly made their way toward Building 4.
Zhao Pandi and the others’ mother was named Zhang Guifang. She had originally been an adopted daughter of the Zhang family. Back when the Zhang family was extremely poor, she was sent to the Zhao family at around fourteen or fifteen to be raised as a child bride.
The bride price had been set extremely high back then, effectively meaning the Zhao family had “bought” her out. After that, both families cut ties completely, as if she no longer existed.
Who would have thought that her two granddaughters would suddenly show up years later and tell them everything, asking the elders to stand up for them?
Once they heard that both of the Zhao elders had passed away, along with the parents, and that a large compensation payout was involved, the Zhang family immediately got ideas.
They showed up as a full family to cause a scene. Coming from a rural village, they were loud, shameless, unreasonable, and full of crude insults as they cursed nonstop.
Before long, the residents of Building 4 were disturbed and came downstairs to see what was going on.
Hearing that they were looking for Zhao Fuyao, Liu Kai’s mother stepped out.
“What kind of people are you? Making such a racket and disturbing everyone. Anyone who didn’t know better would think you were some kind of criminals.”
The Zhang family immediately started cursing at whoever spoke to them.
“We’re here looking for our own family, what business is it of yours? Mind your own damn business!”
Liu Kai’s mother flushed red with anger.
“You can’t understand basic manners at all. How vulgar can you be? Believe it or not, I’ll call the police.”
The old couple from the Zhang family suddenly sat down on the ground and started wailing.
“Oh my god, everyone’s bullying us. We might as well die…”
The four Zhao siblings also felt embarrassed by the scene. Zhao Handi quickly stepped forward to help her grandmother up and began explaining their grievances to the crowd.
“We know this isn’t right, but we were forced into it. Zhao Fuyao took our parents’ compensation money and ran to Haishi without coming home. The four of us don’t even have enough to eat…”
Liu Kai’s mother frowned as she listened, instinctively not fully believing it. After all, that Zhao Fuyao girl always seemed composed and well-mannered.
But these kinds of family disputes were not something outsiders could easily get involved in. Feeling helpless, she quickly slipped back home to make a phone call.
Today, the two children had gone to Yang Jiale’s house for a gathering.
At the Yang residence, Zhao Fuyao received the call. After hearing what Aunt Liu said, she frowned and rushed back immediately.
The moment she reached downstairs, she saw a large crowd gathered. At the entrance of the building stood several poorly dressed men and women of different ages. Among them, the most eye-catching were still the four Zhao siblings.
Zhao Fuyao pressed a hand to her temple. Last time she went back, everything was still fine and they had all been obedient. Turns out they had been quietly building up something this big behind her back.
Zhao Fuyao pushed through the crowd and walked straight in.
“Zhao Handi! Take your people and go outside to talk. Stop making a scene here.”
When Zhao Handi saw Zhao Fuyao and met her cold gaze, she instinctively felt a bit intimidated.
“Big sister, the four of us plan to move our household registration to Grandma’s place. We won’t be in the same household as you anymore. You’re not our guardian, so you don’t have the right to control our money.”
Zhao Fuyao did not even bother wasting words.
“Fine. I agree. We’ll handle the transfer today.”
The rest of the Zhang family immediately reacted and stepped forward, launching into insults.
“You little good-for-nothing girl! Since when does a family get ruled by a girl like you? You even dare to bully your younger siblings? Today I’m going to teach you a lesson on your mother’s behalf!”
The old woman from the Zhang family had a dark, spotty face, looking harsh and unpleasant. Without another word, she raised her hand to slap her.
Zhao Fuyao grabbed her wrist and slapped her right back.
“Do I even know you? Who are you to talk about ‘good-for-nothing’? At your age and still no manners at all.”
The old woman was hit and immediately howled in rage.
“How dare you hit me! You unfilial little thing!”
The rest of the Zhang family rushed in to help, cursing as they tried to attack her.
Zhao Fuyao did not go easy on them. One slap per person, plus a kick here and there. Within moments, they were all crying out in pain.
The onlookers were stunned. That quiet, well-behaved looking girl turned out to be this fierce.
Zhao Fuyao clapped her hands once and stared coldly at the Zhang elders. In front of everyone, she snapped:
“My mom was an adopted daughter in your family. You sold her off when she was only fourteen. Don’t give me that nonsense about family. Now you’ve got the nerve to act like you can teach me a lesson? Who do you think you are? You’re just after our money. If you don’t get lost right now, I’ll keep hitting you.”
The four Zhao siblings had been beaten into fear over the past few months. Seeing their eldest sister so furious, they shrank back, not daring to say a single word.
The Zhang family had lost all their earlier arrogance. Each of them was now holding their face or legs, shocked at how painfully she hit.
Zhao Handi saw they were useless in this moment and gritted her teeth, leading the Zhang family away while giving Zhao Pandi a subtle look.
Zhao Pandi was still scared, but she clenched her fists and firmly pulled the two younger brothers, staying put.
Before coming, Zhao Handi had already told her they had to force the eldest sister back home to deal with the matter today, or they would never see the money.
After all their effort stirring up the two younger boys, they could not afford to fail now.
Once the troublemakers left, the neighbors gradually dispersed as well.
Liu Kai’s mother glanced at Zhao Fuyao as if she wanted to say something, but in the end held back and simply walked away.
Now that no one else was around, Zhao Pandi grew bolder and immediately said, “Big sister, you already agreed just now that you’d come back with us to handle the compensation money.”
After saying that, she nudged the two younger brothers forward. Zhao Long and Zhao Hu were a bit hesitant, but thinking about what their sisters had said about endless pocket money in the future, they still spoke up softly.
“Big sister, if you’re not at home, no one takes care of us. We’re willing to go with second and third sister to Grandma’s place.”
The moment they finished speaking, Zhao Fuyao replied without any hesitation, “Fine. I agree. We’ll go back this time and settle everything clearly.”
