Time-Travel: The Tragic Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Makes a Comeback
CHAPTER 83: The First Wife of a 1980s Big Shot Who Died Young (16)
Huo Meilan went out for a walk, while Qin Huaijing stayed behind to clear the dishes and take them into the kitchen to wash.
After circling the courtyard once, Huo Meilan noticed a small snow-white dog across the way.
She opened the gate and stepped out to take a closer look.
“Yuanbao, come back!”
From not far away, a familiar woman’s voice rang out.
Huo Meilan’s eyelid twitched. What a coincidence.
She stopped and stood right at the gate.
At that moment, Madam Fang arrived as well. She didn’t notice Huo Meilan at first, rushing over to scoop up the little white dog and scolding it, “You little troublemaker, what’s so good over here? Always running to this side.”
“Woof, woof!”
The little dog suddenly barked twice in Huo Meilan’s direction.
Madam Fang immediately looked over. The moment she saw her, her face darkened.
Not seeing anyone else around, only Huo Meilan standing there, she couldn’t help but sneer, “Seems like the Qin family hasn’t even officially held a wedding yet. A young girl like you clinging to wealth and status, not even going home for the New Year, instead hanging around and staying at someone else’s house. How improper.”
Her own daughter liked that brat Qin Huaijing so much, and she originally thought the two of them would end up together. Who would have expected this woman to suddenly appear out of nowhere?
Just thinking about her daughter’s swollen, tearful eyes made Madam Fang hate Huo Meilan even more.
“Wow, your mouth is still as filthy as ever,” Huo Meilan shot back immediately. “Which eye of yours saw me clinging to wealth and power? As someone’s daughter-in-law, coming home for the New Year turns into ‘improper’? Your mouth is dirty so you can’t stand seeing anyone else doing well, is that it? You’re just itching to smear me with mud. At your age, how did you end up with such rotten thoughts?”
Madam Fang was furious, practically shaking with rage. Yesterday Qin Huaijing had insulted her, and now even this nobody girl dared to talk back to her?
The Fang family was well known and respected. Everywhere she went, people treated her politely. Since when was it a turn for some little girl to trample all over her?
“You rude little thing! I’ll teach you a lesson on behalf of your parents today!”
Madam Fang stormed forward while holding the dog, raising her hand angrily, ready to slap her.
Huo Meilan naturally wasn’t going to tolerate that. She grabbed the incoming hand, yanked hard, and flung it away. Madam Fang stumbled and fell straight onto the ground with a heavy thud.
“Ouch—”
“Woof, woof!”
The little white dog got startled and quickly jumped out of its owner’s arms, then ran back and forth anxiously.
Madam Fang, clutching her twisted waist, lost all control of her words in anger. “Yuanbao! Bite her! Go bite that little brat for me! Bite her to death!”
“If it dares to bite her, I’ll chop it up and stew it!”
Qin Huaijing walked out in an apron, his face dark and terrifying.
The little white dog let out a frightened “yelp” and immediately hid behind its owner.
Behind them, Lai Suyun also came out, her face full of anger as she scolded, “Li Chunhua! How can you be so vicious? What has my daughter-in-law ever done to you!”
Hearing the commotion, the rest of the family stepped outside. They had just caught the tail end of Li Chunhua shouting about getting the dog to bite someone, even to death. It was outrageous, completely unhinged and vicious.
Qin Guozhong came out last, his face dark as he said, “Old Fang and I are at least comrades. You don’t kick the Buddha just because you can’t see the monk. In your eyes, is my Qin family’s daughter-in-law just someone you can beat and insult whenever you like?”
Li Chunhua, still holding her waist, slowly got up. A flicker of fear crossed her face. After all, Qin Guozhong’s position was higher than her husband’s.
She quickly tried to defend herself. “I did speak out of anger just now, but this girl was way out of line too. She even pushed me to the ground. I just got too upset and—”
Qin Huaijing cut her off, his voice cold and sharp. “Enough. You were making a scene in the department store yesterday too. You were just trying to vent your anger on behalf of your daughter. Stop trying to smear my wife with nonsense. If anyone wants to bully her, they better ask me first if I agree.”
After speaking, he turned to his father. “Dad, the Fang family has gone too far. Please talk to Uncle Fang about this later. If they feel wronged, then from now on, there’s no need for the two families to stay in contact.”
Qin Guozhong was naturally on his own family’s side. Especially since Huo Meilan was someone he personally picked for his son. The Fang family had truly crossed the line this time.
“Don’t worry, Meilan,” he said firmly. “I brought you into this family. I will never let anyone bully you.”
Li Chunhua was startled. If her husband found out about this, he would definitely pick a fight with her. She hurriedly said, “It’s not that serious. Our two families have been close for decades. How could we cut ties over something like this? Huaijing, Auntie apologizes to you. I’ve watched you grow up since you were little.”
“Enough, Li Chunhua,” Lai Suyun said coldly. “You usually act so cultured and polite, I didn’t expect you to have such a rude side behind people’s backs. If I remember correctly, you’re from a rural background too. Yet you look down on my daughter-in-law? That’s really shameless. You should take care of yourself from now on.”
After saying that, she pulled Huo Meilan back into the house.
Qin Guozhong and Qin Huaijing didn’t bother responding either. The whole family went back inside the courtyard, and Qin Huaijing even locked the gate behind them.
Li Chunhua’s face turned pale. She opened her mouth as if to say something, but they were already gone.
Only one thought echoed in her mind.
It was over.
……
On New Year’s Eve, the Qin family dressed in festive new clothes. After their reunion dinner, they went out into the courtyard to set off firecrackers.
Huo Meilan and Qin Huaijing, both wrapped in red scarves, were lighting firecrackers while chasing and playfully teasing each other.
Not far away, Lai Suyun and Qin Guozhong stood watching with smiles on their faces.
Meanwhile, things were far from peaceful over at the Fang household.
Fang Jiao had already been unwell for two days because of heartbreak, but what made things worse was that her parents had suddenly started talking about divorce.
The day before, her father had come home in a foul mood, smashing a cup in anger and scolding her mother harshly. He was firm about getting a divorce, while her mother cried and refused to agree.
After learning the reason, Fang Jiao hugged her mother and cried with her. She knew her mother had been wrong, but it had all been for her sake.
In the end, mother and daughter both knelt down, begging her father together.
But Father Fang kept a cold, tight expression. He looked exhausted, like he didn’t even want to spare them another glance.
Back then, marrying Li Chunhua was also a twist of fate. The one he was actually meant to marry was Li Chunhua’s older sister. Only when the bride arrived and they went into the bridal room did he realize the older sister had been replaced by the younger one.
But by then, the marriage was already done. On top of that, Li Chunhua was threatening to die over it, so Father Fang had no choice but to accept it.
Father Fang came from a humble background. He had fought his way up step by step to where he was today. In particular, Qin Guozhong had taken him under his wing and promoted him along the way, and he had always been deeply grateful for that.
He could live without a wife, but he could not afford to lose the Qin family.
Putting personal feelings aside, if he truly fell out with them, the Fang family would likely have no place left to stand.
Unlike Qin Guozhong, who had solid backing, he had climbed up entirely on his own. Qin Guozhong had always been the one guiding and introducing him forward.
Although Qin Guozhong also came from a small town, his first marriage had tied him to the daughter of a division commander. Even though his wife had passed away due to illness, those connections still remained.
His second marriage to a young and pampered wife was even more impressive. The Lai family had been influential for generations, and his father-in-law was also very supportive of him.
So why would he ever throw away everything he had worked so hard for just for someone as useless and foolish as Li Chunhua?
Two days later, the divorce was finalized.
Li Chunhua was kicked out of the house. When Fang Jiao tried to plead for her, her father only scolded her harshly and told her to leave with her mother if she wanted.
She cried until she fainted. When she woke up, she learned that her mother had already been sent back to her hometown.
From that moment on, Fang Jiao’s hatred for Huo Meilan only grew.
If it weren’t for her, their family would never have fallen apart.
