Time-Travel: The Tragic Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Makes a Comeback

CHAPTER 112: The 1980s Villain’s Biological Mother (5)

The village chief had completely lost face in front of the police officers and immediately gave the old Wang couple a harsh scolding.

“I gave the comrades from the military my word! And this is the mess you make for me?”

“I think the two of you have gone senile! Just because Junzi is gone, does that mean you can bully his wife and children however you please?”

The village chief was genuinely furious.

This family was full of idiots.

Even if they had only kept up appearances, it would have been one thing. But they had practically tormented the mother and children to death.

And those two kids were ¹Wang Jun’s children too!

The man had died on the battlefield. His widow and children were already pitiful enough as it was. Yet not only had the Wang family hidden the truth, they had even made up lies to fool everyone.

The matter had already become common knowledge throughout the village. Acting as mediator, the village chief ruled that the Wang family should hand over half of the compensation money to the mother and her two children.

The old Wang couple immediately refused.

“That money was compensation for our son’s death! Why should they get any of it? If it weren’t for Mu Shuhui, this jinx, bringing misfortune upon our family, my son wouldn’t have died so young!”

Wang Xiaomei also jumped in loudly.

“That was the money my second brother earned with his life! Why should it go to an outsider? Once Mu Shuhui remarries, she won’t even be part of our family anymore. She’s been planning to leave all along. This whole act is just her way of squeezing money out of us!”

At those words, everyone turned to look at Mu Shuhui.

Even the village chief frowned and asked, “Junzi’s widow, are you planning to remarry?”

“Of course not!” Mu Shuhui shot back immediately. “Ever since Junzi passed away, I’ve stayed home every day serving this entire family. I hardly even step outside. Stop throwing mud at me and making things up!”

Then she deliberately raised her voice for everyone to hear.

“It doesn’t matter if some people don’t believe me. If this issue can’t be resolved today, that’s fine too. I’ll take my children and go directly to Junzi’s old military unit. We’re just a widow and two children. I refuse to believe there isn’t anyone willing to stand up for us. There has to be somewhere we can seek justice!”

The moment those words left her mouth, most of the crowd was already convinced she was telling the truth.

The village chief became even more anxious.

“Junzi’s widow, everyone believes you. There’s no need to travel all that way. Don’t worry. I’ll make sure this matter is settled properly for the three of you.”

If the situation escalated and reached the ears of higher authorities, it would reflect badly on him. A reprimand would be the least of his worries. People might even question whether he was fit to remain village chief.

With a stern expression, he pulled the old Wang couple aside for a private talk.

Naturally, it consisted mostly of threats and warnings.

Whether they called the police or took the matter to court, the outcome would be the same. Now that Wang Jun was gone, the compensation money did not belong solely to the old Wang couple. His wife and two children were legally entitled to a share as well.

After a lengthy scolding, the old Wang couple reluctantly handed over five hundred yuan.

“You little debt collector! We must have been blind to let you marry into this family. Take the money and get out! You’re not allowed to live here anymore. That house is being kept for our Chaoyang. From now on, whether the three of you live or die has nothing to do with us!”

Now that their true colors had been exposed, the Wang family no longer bothered to keep up appearances. In front of everyone, they threw the money at her and openly drove her out.

The village chief’s face darkened even further.

Everything he had just said had clearly gone in one ear and out the other.

“Old Wang, Mother Wang, what kind of talk is that? Those two grandchildren are your own blood! How can you just throw them out?”

“Who knows whose children they really are?” the old woman snapped. “My son only came home once or twice a year. Besides, neither of them looks anything like our family. Whoever wants them can take them home!”

The moment those words left her mouth, Mu Shuhui could no longer hold back.

She rushed forward and landed two loud slaps across Mother Wang’s face.

“How dare you spout such nonsense! Junzi is already gone, and you’re still smearing his name!”

“Is money really worth being this heartless?”

The crowd barely had time to react before the two slaps had already landed.

Mother Wang staggered back. The corner of her mouth split open, and her wrinkled face twisted with fury.

“You little bitch! How dare you hit me!”

She lunged forward, grabbing for Mu Shuhui’s clothes, intending to strike back.

Instead, Mu Shuhui seized her by the hair and flung her aside in one swift motion.

  “Mom!”

Wang Xiaomei rushed forward to help, lifting her leg to kick Mu Shuhui in the stomach.

By then, Mu Shuhui had completely snapped.

She charged straight at the Wang family and started beating them without holding back.

“So you really intend to leave me and my children with no way to survive, huh?! The compensation payment was three thousand yuan, and you only gave me five hundred! You slander my reputation and trample all over us. Fine! I don't want to live anymore either! Today I'll settle things with you beasts once and for all!”

  “Ahhh! You lunatic, stop!”

The villagers watching nearby made no move to stop her.

All they could see was a pitiful widow who had been driven to the edge by the Wang family.

Otherwise, how could someone with such a gentle and timid personality turn into this?

Wang Chaoyang had originally wanted to rush over and help, but seeing his little sister crying uncontrollably in fear, he stayed where he was and wrapped his arms around her, quietly comforting her while nervously watching the chaos unfold.

When he realized those people were no match for his mother, he secretly let out a sigh of relief.

A trace of happiness appeared on his face, one he didn't even notice himself.

In the end, it was the village chief who stepped forward and pulled Mu Shuhui away.

Looking at the three members of the Wang family with bruised faces and swollen noses, he found himself at a loss for words.

Saying she shouldn't have hit them didn't feel right, because they had clearly brought it upon themselves.

But saying she was justified in beating them up didn't sound right either.

Left with no better option, he tried to smooth things over.

“Alright, alright. You're all family. Why make such a scene? Junzi's widow, if you have something to say, say it properly. You shouldn't resort to hitting people. If it can be solved with reason, then use reason.”

“I can barely survive as it is. What reason is there left to talk about?!”

Mu Shuhui shook off the village chief's hand in one motion.

At first, Ye Susu had only intended to use the situation as an excuse to beat this group of people up.

But once she truly put herself in the original owner's shoes, the anger became all too real.

The Wang family had already taken every advantage they could. Even when they were throwing her out, they still couldn’t resist smearing her reputation and questioning her virtue. A widow with two children, forced to face those kinds of rumors in an era like this... wasn't that practically driving someone to death?

Thinking of that, Mu Shuhui yanked off one of her shoes and hurled it straight at them.

The shoe hit its target perfectly, followed immediately by Mother Wang’s pained shriek.

  “Ahhh!”

Seeing how utterly unreachable and worked up Mu Shuhui was, the village chief knew there was no talking her down.

He hurried over to the Wang family and lowered his voice.

“You two need to hand over the compensation money that rightfully belongs to her. If she keeps losing control like this, nobody will be able to stop her. She's furious right now. If she really picks up a knife, it'll be too late for regrets.”

Bruised and aching all over, the Wang family members were still unwilling to back down.

“Even if she uses a knife, she'd have to pay with her life! Giving her five hundred yuan is already more than generous. There's no way she's getting more. Want half? She can keep dreaming!”

To them, money mattered far more than people. Once it landed in their pockets, prying it back out was nearly impossible. The old Wang couple remained stubbornly unmoved.

The village chief was starting to get a headache. In the end, he could only take the five hundred yuan and stuff it into Mu Shuhui’s hands.

“Junzi’s widow, take this money and use it for now. As long as I'm the village chief, the Wang family has no right to throw you out. Stay here without worry. If you need help with anything, come to the village office. I'll do my best to help you sort it out.”

Mu Shuhui could tell that he simply didn't want to get dragged any deeper into this mess. She hadn't expected him to force the Wang family to hand over the rest of the money anyway.

In the end, she'd have to handle it herself.

So she accepted the money and casually thanked him.

Seeing her accept the money, the village chief finally let out a sigh of relief. In his eyes, she was still a kind-hearted and soft-natured woman after all. His expression relaxed, and a smile appeared on his face.

“Don't worry, Junzi's widow. If they dare bully you again, come find me. I'll make sure to set them straight.”

  “Alright.”

At last, the matter had been smoothed over for the time being. The village chief dismissed the crowd of curious villagers who had gathered to watch the spectacle, then left the Wang family home.

So, I’m basically on a fixing spree now. 😂 If any of you spot any grammar or name mistakes, please feel free to tell me. I’ll fix them.
