Heavenly Eyes 3: A Song of Hope

CHAPTER 4

17.

Shen Chen heard my words and helplessly patted my head.

“I really don't know what to do with you. Don't worry, with your younger brother here, I'll protect you!”

I laughed and pulled his hand away. “You're just a little kid yourself, you better protect yourself first!”

Shen Chen, unconvinced, patted my head again.

“Who's a little kid? I'm almost taller than you!”

The growth rate of boys is really something to be admired.

Just a few years ago, he was a little sprout I could hold in my arms, but these past few years, he's grown like he's been taking steroids, now almost taller than me.

I pressed down on his head, pushing him down.

Even so, I'm still your older sister!

“A younger brother is always a younger brother! You're not allowed to be taller than me!”

Shen Chen scoffed.

“Childish!”

However, he still lowered his head, letting me push on his head.

Back home, I offered tributes to Li Zhuangzhuang and Grandma Yueying as usual.

Grandma Yueying sat in the rocking chair in my room, and nudged her chin towards the window.

“Today, the neighbours fought again. That girl, she's really unlucky. She's not right in the head, and she has such a mother. She's suffering!”

I looked at her in surprise. “You saw it, why didn't you help her?”

Grandma Yueying said unhappily, “What? Am I Guanyin Bodhisattva? Do I have to take care of everything? You offer me tributes, she doesn't.”

Seeing me looking at her pitifully, Grandma Yueying said helplessly, “Besides, that house has door gods. I'm just a lonely ghost; I can't even get in!”

I laughed. So that's why she couldn't go in.

I couldn't help but tease her, “But aren't you a fierce ghost? Fierce ghosts, aren't they supposed to be more aggressive?”

Grandma Yueying showed her long fingernails and stuck out her scarlet tongue at me.

“So what if I'm fierce? Want to try?”

Tsk…

One after another, why are they all so bad-tempered?

Guess I'm just unlucky!

I didn't dare provoke Grandma Yueying, so after washing up, I went to bed.

18.

The next morning, I went to school.

Shen Chen's school isn't exactly on the same route as mine, so sometimes we go our separate ways.

Because I woke up early, I didn't take public transportation.

From afar, I saw two figures.

Both were wearing our school uniforms, one tall and one short, one male and one female. They looked very similar.

“Are those the two from yesterday?”

I frowned, realizing the boy wasn't necessarily human, but the girl definitely was.

But why was the boy following her?

And could the girl see him?

Suddenly, I saw the girl turn around, cry out something to the boy, cover her ears, and desperately run away.

The boy was behind her, looking annoyed, his face dark and menacing.

This person, he's really bad.

Every time I see him, he's bullying someone.

I couldn't help but walk over and ask him.

“Hey! What's wrong with you? Why are you always bullying others?”

The person saw it was me and sneered, twisting his lips.

“Oh! It's you again? What, are you offering yourself up to be eaten?”

I almost died laughing!

“Last time, I didn't figure out what you were, so I didn't bother with you.

Do you think I didn't notice? You're not human, you don't even have a physical body!

I'm warning you, stay away from that girl, don't have any bad ideas, or I won't be easy on you!”

One drop of my blood, and you might die!

Then, I saw that person glance at me with disdain, and follow the girl ahead.

Who am I? Finding out someone's identity is no problem for me!

I quickly found out the girl's identity.

Her name is Xia Yuan, a senior in high school, a year ahead of me.

She's introverted and gloomy, and doesn't get along well with anyone at school.

But the boy... I couldn't find any information about him.

“Could he really not be human?”

With that question in my mind, I returned to the classroom.

19.

I arrived in the classroom and only then did An Wenwen tell me that something big had happened.

Because of what happened to Teacher Ma, the legends about senior Tang Yun'en were spreading again throughout the school.

Many students were trembling with fear, too scared to come to school.

Especially the students in our class; their parents were making a huge fuss.

The empty space where senior sister Tang fell is closest to our classroom.

Teacher Ma insisted that he saw Tang Yun'en's ghost, and said that Tang Yun'en's death was suspicious, and that her vengeful spirit had returned to claim lives.

The hospital has already spoken to his family and suggested that he see a psychiatrist.

Our school principal even personally held a meeting to tell everyone that those were rumors, to believe in science, and to dispel feudal superstitions.

Of course, I want to support him! After all, school is for studying, and if everyone is living in fear, it will greatly affect their studies.

But the dark energy on his forehead is so dark it's almost solid, almost like it has the word ‘death’ written on it.

I vaguely sensed something, and during break time, I climbed to the rooftop for the first time, to the place where the senior sister Tang supposedly jumped.

Sure enough, I saw the senior sister Tang watching short videos.

She was following a young male influencer, showering him with gifts, even reaching the top of the leaderboard.

I solemnly called her name: “Tang Yun'en!”

The senior sister's body seemed to be controlled suddenly.

Her eyes glazed over, she put down her phone, walked to the edge of the building, and then her body fell backward, like a broken string, plummeting straight down.

I took a deep breath, noticing something.

After making the senior replay the fall several times, I was finally certain.

“From the way you fell, you were pushed, not that you jumped. Therefore, the so-called suicide never happened; it was a murder.”

Senior sister Tang, who was always so arrogant towards me, was now kneeling at my feet, crying, completely helpless.

“It's too much... you're really too much…”

I quickly apologized: “I'm sorry, I'm sorry, wasn't I just trying to help you and your mom?

Uh... you go ahead and play for now, I'll burn you some paper money next time, and be your number one big sister!”

20.

I immediately rushed to the principal's office.

Principal Wang's office door wasn't closed, and I could faintly smell incense, like some kind of ritual was taking place.

I was speechless. This morning he held a meeting telling everyone not to be superstitious, and now he's secretly being superstitious himself?

I knocked on the door and called out, “Principal Wang?”

The person inside seemed startled, kicking a washbasin under the desk, turning to me and sternly saying, “What is it? Who let you in?”

Principal Wang naturally didn't remember me, a lowly student.

I didn't waste words, and directly stated my guess.

“Principal, I'm here today because of something very important.

I think senior sister Tang didn't commit suicide, but was pushed down the stairs, which is why her spirit has been lingering for all these years.

The motion-sensor light at the end of the first-floor corridor is proof!”

My words caused Principal Wang's face to drastically change.

“How do you know? That's not... what are you talking about!”

Naturally, I couldn't say that I just watched the senior sister jump off the building more than ten times, observing her falling posture from all angles!

I could only say, “Principal, please believe me, I have a very strong sixth sense. I dreamt of the scene of senior sister Tang's fall, and I saw someone pushing her from behind.”

Principal Wang flew into a rage: “Which class are you in? Call your homeroom teacher! Believe it or not, if you keep talking nonsense, I'll expel you!”

I was a little intimidated by his scolding and told him, “My homeroom teacher is Teacher Ma, the teacher who was hospitalized a few days ago because he was so scared.

He said he was a classmate of senior sister Tang twenty years ago, and that he saw senior sister Tang’s ghost.”

Principal Wang, who had been so aggressive just moments ago, suddenly looked like a chicken with its neck squeezed, his face flushed red, gasping for breath.

Seeing his reaction, I knew I was onto something!

I quickly asked him, “Principal, seeing how agitated you are, you must know something, right?

I've checked the school's historical archives. After senior sister Tang's mother, Principal Tang, passed away, you took over as principal and have been in the position ever since.”

Unable to withstand my relentless questioning, Principal Wang grabbed me and threw me out the door, then slammed it shut with a ‘bang.’

21.

I was given the cold shoulder, but I wasn't discouraged.

Principal Wang definitely has something to hide. Just you wait, I'll be back after school!

As I went downstairs, I seemed to see that boy following Xia Yuan again.

He looked at me with an ambiguous smile, his blood-red pupils emitting an eerie red light.

It was very late when evening self-study ended. I waited a while, until most people had left, before going out.

Under the full moon, the boundless moonlight cast a silvery sheen on the campus, making it look exceptionally beautiful in the quiet night.

I hid outside Principal Wang's office, watching him leave the office and go up to the rooftop, where he took out a metal basin and started burning paper money.

Illuminated by the firelight, his face, framed by glasses and etched with wrinkles, appeared dark and ferocious.

“Tang Yun'en, Principal Tang, it's been so many years, please stop making trouble!

I promise, this weekend I'll find a master to properly conduct a ceremony for you, okay?

But if you continue to make trouble, don't blame me for being ruthless!”

This Principal Wang, he knows how to talk.

A carrot and a stick approach.

But the situation is that senior sister Tang was murdered, and her mother's death was also suspicious.

They weren't making trouble; they had grievances that were difficult to redress and resentment that was hard to dispel!

I stepped out from behind Principal Wang, held up my phone showing the recording, and said to him, “Principal Wang, you certainly know what happened to senior sister Tang and Principal Tang, don't you?

Don't deny it, I've recorded everything you just said. If you don't tell the truth, I'll give this recording to the police!”

Principal Wang was startled when he saw me, then his face darkened.

“You again? Who are you? What's your relationship with them? Why do you keep bothering me?”

I was a little speechless, trying to reason with him.

“It's not that I'm bothering you; it's that you're hiding too much.

Principal Wang, do you know? People who die unjustly, before their lifespan is up, can't be reincarnated.

Senior sister Tang is trapped here, repeatedly falling from the building countless times every day.

And, Principal Tang, senior sister Tang's mother, she's still searching for her daughter all over the school.

If you know the truth, please tell me, so that the deceased can rest in peace!

And this matter is causing a lot of unrest. If this continues, and it gets to the education bureau, it won't be good for your reputation or the school's, will it?”

I was speaking entirely out of good intentions!

Unexpectedly, Principal Wang became angrier and angrier, staring at me fiercely.

“You dare to threaten me?”
